Well one problem with rigging a new model is that there isn't any previous rigged boats to base the design from except the factory version. I like to have my FF, forward rod mount, gaff and lip gripper within arms reach without having to move so I ended up rigging the Trident very similar to my P15. I used a RAM tube mounted between the sonar and rod pod, a tight fit and the base does extend slightly but articulation is pretty good although not 100%. The Eagle 250 FF is mounted on a RAM 1 inch diamond mount and the unit when disassembled will fit in the compartment with the sonar shield completely closed for surf landing. The gaff if attached using a deck loop for the hook and a bungee loop holding the handle in place. The #8 AA battery case is in a Pelican box which is suspended by a bungee by 2 plastic hooks which are attached to the bolts for the FF RAM mount. This installation holds the battery case about 3-4 inches above the bottom of the hull and therefore above any water that enters the hull (unless there are several gallons). The Plano 1612 box has 3 rod holders and is held in place with a bungee run over 2 hooks. I may add a second bungee over the rod holders. The rigging stuff came from...

West Marine - plano box, plastic hooks
kayakfishingstuff.com - RAM tube, FF RAM mount, 2 wire rubber stopper, tranducer foam, well nuts, lip gripper mount, deck loops, bungees mounts
REI - pelican box
RadioShack - battery case, fuse holder, fuse

The general layout has all the fish landing stuff on the port side with the starboard side clean for easy entry and exit. I am sure others will find cooler rigging designs but this one works for me.

Sweet set up Scott  :smt007 How did you attach the rod holders behind your dry box? I will be upgrading my dry box for my Trident and I already bought the rod holders - just need an idea of how to put 'em together. Any pics? Appreciate it!

Nice work GB2. I love how the FF fits in there. Just don't forget to get something on the sharp end of that gaff. Hate to hear you got impaled on that sucker landing in surf or something.

Actually the cool thing about the gaff rigging is the point is held in place on the small ledge for the rudder footpedals so it is impossible to impale yourself. Very quick access and storage.

Here is how I rigged the box using single rod holders from Cabelas. I slightly flared out the outside holders but not enough that the rods would be in the way for a dock launching. The last picture is my P15 box which has a drift chute velcro'd to the handle and a scotty mount which I use for either a forward rod holder (tying on leaders and fish landing), downrigger or light mast. I will be using the light mast on the Islander so you can check it out.

Yeah, I was really bummed my P15 box wouldn't fit on the Trident because of the 3 rod holder design.  :smt013 I also like the P15 wedge fit for the Plano 1612 better than the loose fitting Trident. The single rod holders from cabelas were not too expensive but the upper mount has to be relocated which was a drag.

Scott, Why didn't you use the available trans ducer hole for your trans ducer?

Frank

The transducer hole is designed for Humminbird transducers. I may upgrade next year to the 700 series Humminbird (WAF pending) and wanted to reserve the scupper hole installation for the optional bank scanning transducer. My Eagle 250 is a pretty basic single beam unit which works fine in a shoot through hull installation which is a cleaner install anyway IMO. I wish I could afford the side scan Humminbird like Marmite but my WAF and bank account are pretty low right now because of the Islander trip. My son I will be at the KC derby on Sunday. See you there.

Very clean Scott.
I love the gaff set up. I did something similar in principle for the Islander trip but I like your design much better. Thanks for sharing.

Also added some clips to hold the gaff inside the hull for mother ship trips.
