What is your favorite sunscreen? I'm looking for something that works all day, doesn't make my eyes sting, and doesn't smell too strong. Actually, it is fine if it smells as long as the fish don't mind it.

Hey Krishna, I've been hardly using sunscreen. I've been wearing a Huk Neck Gaiter, very breathable and comfortable. Also use them for hiking even in the summer time. Ebay has the best deals, search for "Huk Gaiter". I like so em much I own 6. I hand wash them so the face fabric doesnt get darned.

I've always used NO-AD 50, but it looks like maybe it's not being made now?

Agree with sunhats and buffs and all that too; my standard hat on the water or out in the desert is an Outdoor Research Sun Runner Cap. Long sleeve sun shirts and sun hoodies are also good stuff.

It's definitely easy to get sunburned on the ocean!

I hate all sunscreens, I burn easily, and I've had skin cancer removed from my nose (some of you might remember the gross pictures that I posted...), so this is an important issue!

IMHO, the least-bad sunscreen is the stuff with zinc oxide. Trader Joe's used to sell it in a convenient stick that made it easy to apply and carry on the kayak, but they don't have it anymore. This stuff is the closest analog that I've found:

https://www.amazon.com/Zinka-Clear-Sunscreen-Resistant-Minutes/dp/B004RHO904

It's not quite as effective the TJ's version, but still better (and more convenient) than anything else I've found. Any zinc oxide sumblock goes on white, and for this brand, they say that if you rub it in, you can get rid of the whiteness, but I just glob it on and live with the ghostly look.

Having said all of that, I'm going to buy a Huy Neck Gaiter and see if it'll work. I've tried lots of things like that, and none ever worked very well. Btw, I currently have something that covers my head, ears, and neck, so only my nose and cheeks need the sunblock.

I also really dislike sunscreen, can't imagine it's not getting on my bait and rigs and reducing my chances of catching fish. Banana Boat is the worst, gets in my clothes and doesn't even wash out in the laundry.

Fish hate banana.....however I'm also high risk for skin cancer. Still waiting for someone to market the squid scent sunscreen so I use a SPF50 buff, long sleeves, big hat and sunglasses.

Raw Elements Face and Body Certified Natural Sunscreen.

I use this stuff. It's not super cheap, but it's claimed to be reef-safe, non-nano zinc oxide, organic, etc.
It goes on thick and pasty, and while it requires some effort to remove, it doesn't run and stays put as long as I need it.
I use it for biking and fishing, but not for any sort of social occasions, as it leaves a thick white goopy coating on my face.

Overall, it's great.

I use this too and keep the tin in my pfd always. I am a big sun hoody fan, but I hate neck gaiters. Just feel stifled and humid. But, I apply this stuff to my cheeks and nose and with my hood and hat on, along with long sleeves, im protected top to bottom. I actually like the scent of this stuff too. It’s mild but pleasant.

You want 20+ % of zinc oxide.  Raw elements that MB2 linked is 23%.

I pepsi challenged the following items, in increasing order of [Zn] ... usually end up going Butter Stick to spare finger tips of the grease.
All Good Kids Butter Sunblock Stick
Thinksport
Thrive

There was a brand I found in Kauai called Hawaiian Sol that offered a pump spray zinc block.  It dried really pasty and tacky with a ghastly white pall.  But THAT was the best stuff bc of the liquidified delivery mode and blocking.  Haven't found it since.

Also, the Raw Elements I linked comes in a metal tin, so no plastic (other than the packaging of course).

I like Trader Joes face and body SPF 30 (orange tube). It seems to last a long time, but is easy to apply and is not sticky and pasty.

I use the same TJ sunscreen. It doesn't irritate my face like some do. I also wear the Outdoor Research wide brim hat and a buff.

This looks like a winner. I don't know how I missed it in my previous searching--maybe the low SPF number. In any case, I just ordered it and will give it a try...

I should give the Raw Elements stuff a try, but in general I'm also a sunscreen hater.  I sweat too easily and it runs into my eyes and is irritating.  I use a big floppy ugly hat now and a UV Buff like FishingAddict and sunglasses.  But if I'm going to be in the direct sun, I stay as fully covered as possible.
