I have a chovie flatfall 4oz., one barbless hook per end...legal and legit?  Would love to hook up on the edge of a bait ball on the slow pitch rod...what say you? :smt006

I think the guys from Pitbull Tackle have been doing that with some success. Not 100% sure they're slow pitching though. I think its a great idea. Go for it

I caught a baby salmon on silver 4 oz jig fishing for lingcod. It will work for sure.

A couple of years ago my buddy was texting me that Salmon were slamming his jigs when he was Rockfishing off of Fort Ross. It was a couple weeks before the opener so he had to release them all. He couldn't keep them off the hook

Would be one hell of a fight there. I had a silver mooching on my light trevela and that was a blast till i saw his mouth. I assume it would be a similar fight w a noodle rod and a chrome torpedo.

Im sure the slow pitch would draw a reactionary bite if you had a salmon in front of it.

It works for sure, I caught one mooching with anchovy color pattern, also 4 oz.  Although I used a Shimano MH rod (which is pretty stiff).  I personally like a stiffer rod for jigging (which is bad if you dont horse the fish).

I think the old timers use to jig for salmon on the drift until the rules changed to circle hooks if you’re drifting. On a peddle kayak I’m sure you can trooch and jig and get away with using J hooks.

Seems to me that you might have a hard time claiming that your trolling if you are jigging...

“TROLLING is defined as angling from a boat or floating device that is making way by means of a source of power, other than drifting by means of the prevailing water current or weather conditions.”

I guess it’s the definition of trolling we’re looking at rather than the act of jigging. I’m assuming peddling at any rate is a “source of power” so you’re good to slow trooch and jig.

If you kick your pedals (or dip your paddle in the water) every once in a while, are you trolling? You might be able to convince a judge, but I suspect Mr/Ms Warden would be mighty tempted to give you a ticket...

Very inspiring with the feedback, thanks, trooching it is...or, do circle hooks seem ineffective for a jig kinda bite, jigs aren't tasty as far as I can tell so the grab spit thing seems imminent and a circle hook might not do its joerb... :smt006
