Last year I went through 4 scissors, including some that are specifically for salt water fishing, and all rusted after a day in the ocean. Then I discovered the Fiskars PRO Power Arc.
What a game changer. They have serrated blades, so they cut braid and mono easily. I use them to cut gills and anything while I’m OTW (but not bones). A year later and they’re good as new.
I’ve also found this material called Lanocote which smells like sheep fat. I think it is, because the product claims to be naturally green and there is no warning that it’s toxic. That’s important because I don’t want to put chemicals on scissors that cut stuff that I eat! Anyways, it’s an amazing salt water protectant for metals. It’s a little sticky when applied and has a rust color (confusing).
The biggest plus for me is that I don’t have to spend so much time cleaning after a trip. Just a splash of water. My Spyderco knife also has this coating and most of the time I don’t even bother washing it.

Nice. For the last few years I have been using a pair of trauma shears with a carabiner handle, clipped to my PFD:

https://www.amazon.com/Trauma-Shears-Carabiner-Veterinary-Accessories/dp/B08WZ9XFBR

They work well and haven't rusted yet, but I can't cut braid with one hand, I have to apply tension to the line with the other hand. It occurs to me that I don't own a pair of scissors, and after 26 years, I'm still not sure which of my wife's sewing scissors I'm allowed to borrow, so I think I'll pick up a pair of the Fiskars, maybe take them fishing, and I'll definitely give the Lanocote a try.

I've always liked Fiskar products, from hatchets and axes to trimming shears.  Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't carried scissors, but have seen plenty of uses for them while fishing so I think I'll grab some.  Also Lanocote sounds like cheap insurance for rust prevention, think I'll give it a try as well for my PFD knife.   :thumleft:

I recommend stainless steel surgical scissors.  I also have a few forceps.

I recommend Clauss 8" Titanium Snips with Wire Cutter, Spring-Assist, Serrated Blades.  I have been using these scissors for the last five years and would not leave home without it.
I use it to cut bait and clean fish.

Those titanium snips look awesome! I had titanium scissors that rusted, and I think it has to do with the quality of the coating.

I got these Cuda Snips from Walmart. They are holding up well for the past 2 years. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Cuda-Fishing-Snips-8-Titanium-Bonded-with-Integrated-Wire-Cutter-Blue/42434312
I use the same, but they do rust, at least for me anyway.  But I am not giving this up, its my fav fishing tool.

Those cuda's look pretty good for what I would be using scissors for.  But I can get the fiskars at my local Ace Hardware, so going to get a pair of those first.  I dont really care about cutting braid with them, because I always use my boomerang snips for that stuff:  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Boomerang-Tool-Company-Original-SNIP-Fishing-Line-Cutter-Retractable-Tether-Stainless-Steel-Blades-That-Cut-Braid-Clean-Smooth-Everytime-Black/37706942?athcpid=37706942&athpgid=AthenaItempage&athcgid=null&athznid=siext&athieid=v0&athstid=CS004&athguid=00-eaeea2e4e88f9ab43acdcc41d9cb9ccd-7e05f467e02ee227-01&athancid=null&athena=true

But cleaning fish easily out on the water, cutting up bait, cutting the gills, etc sounds so much easier with scissors!

The cuda cuts through most materials, braid, fish bone, hooks, downrigger wire, chicken thigh bone, cat food can, salmon spoon, dodger/flasher, thick swivel, etc.

Scissor threads are my kinda thread…I guess I could cut off those Mohawk fins for added handling safety, I’ve sure done that with a striper, they also have a very sharp spike at the gill area, that’s it…ikijime then haircut… bald, wired, bled and gutted…now I need a specimen to practice on…hmmm…windy.com…what say you?  Monday, lookin’ good… :smt006

I made a short video of using titanium scissors to clean a rockfish.

Nice video!  Sure makes sense to me to start carrying scissors while fishing.
