6:15 pm: Just got back from a bike ride to the Cap. wharf -
On the wharf:2 or 3 garbage cans plus a big cooler full of WSB, as tall as the cans
"They're already sold. Over a $1000 worth, $3. a pound."  "They snag them with a treble hook."  "Were you out near the mile buoy with those other... ?"  " Just right out here [indicating southeast of the wharf]"
It was windy as could be just now, but the surf wasn't bad.  This morning it was clear and a medium surf along Pleasure Pt to the Hook.

Wow, I walked out to the wharf two days ago, and they told me the WSB were gone. Apparently not!

I was just thinking about heading over there tomorrow.  Are the WSB hitting on live bait,
Mackeral, anchovies or squid?  or may be I should bring my treble hook too :smt001. Got any advice.

my barber says drift a mac. terminal hook goes in the mouth. first hook (small) above anal fin.

allows the mac to swim away from you. says the WSB suck 'em down head first. he's 70, he's
caught a lot of fish.

he says if you are going to troll them tho, turn the hooks around (duh).

I think just paddling around with two rods, one with a lure, the other towing your mackerel is
a reasonable way to go.

you might get into barracuda too, I think they are out there now too.

I got an 20lbs WSB at the Capitola Wharf. I used 3 green paper lures tied together and casted to the big white cooler chest.  I was told that the fish was caught sunday afternoon. WSB tasted good on a grill, just don't overcook it, or any fish.

Tasty but illegal.
IMO, the only thing worse than snagging a fish...is paying for a snagged fish.
Lame.

I was just about to say that someone shoulda called DFG on the snaggers.

Easy on me. I have not readed this report about snagging before I bought the fish yesterday. There is no snagged mark on the fish I bought.

I'm not targetting fishbear...because I would've said the same thing to anybody who posted that they bought a WSB on the pier.
Maybe I am just bitter about all these beautiful fish being snagged. But that doesn't change the fact that it is illegal to buy recreationally-caught fish.

I've been offered money for fish I caught plenty of times. But I refuse to sell fish to these people. I have a few friends that are commercial. They make their living by selling fish (Legally) and they'd be pissed if I told them about the BS going on down at the pier. This crap has been going on for the past month or so.

No offense to fishbear. This is a pretty common occurance down there. He's not the only one. Plus, I believe lots of these people think it is legal.
