All my yaks have standard seats like the old Hobie seats, and a standard Crack O' Dawn type of seat.  Over the years I've been getting some pretty bad back and sciatic pains and have tried a few different seat cushions to help alleviate the pain.  The Sturgeon General suggested that I buy a Purple Seat Cushion, made by the company Purple, known for very good beds also makes seat cushions apparently. So I checked Amazon and found they were in the 80-150$ range, and probably worth it.  You can check them out here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/6EFB97B2-CD81-4F3B-A1FD-D12D081D5599?ingress=2&visitId=405452d5-71d0-496f-b4d0-c90a7d344eb4&ref_=ast_bln

But of course Amazon also shows you cheaper alternatives and suggested I take a look at this one: https://www.amazon.com/Purple-Cushion-Sitting-Nonslip-Cover/dp/B08P3TRZS5/ref=sr_1_6?crid=1MTCWKNM044ZN&keywords=purple+seat+cushions&qid=1648580405&sprefix=purple+seat+cushions%2Caps%2C371&sr=8-6

For 40$ I figured I'd try it.  And at first I used it on my office chair for about a week and it did make my back pain from sitting 9-10 hours in a chair seem a bit less.  So I got to try it out this weekend on the kayak, and I'm definitely a huge fan of it for the price and comfort it gave me on the water.

This weekend I wanted to troll my ass off both Saturday and Sunday, as well as drive 3 hours each day.  At the end of such a day usually I have to down some Ibuprofen and lay on my back to quiet the pain.  But I put in >16 miles trolling and >260 miles of driving, and that seat cushion helped a LOT.  For 40$ if you have back pain, I suggest giving it a try.  They have a wider version for 50$ as well.  And there are more alternatives than that.  But I like this one, it dried out very quickly and fit great in my Hobie seat.  Has a bit of a tacky underside to keep it from slipping, and you can easily rinse it with the rest of your gear.

Unless you just need the color purple for some reason (no judgement! :smt003 ), there is pretty much the same thing in blue for $14 less - $25.99. Also come in green, black …

I had a YakPad 6-7 years ago a gel filled seat and it felt pretty comfortable.  But it burst at some point, and was useless after that.  I really think that the versatility of this seat cushion is the best part about it.  I'm using it for everything now from working, driving to kayaking.  I'm sitting on it right now  :smt044  What is the Kayak Kushion made out of?  Didn't see any info on that link, just the products they sell.

I may try it for chairs with cloth seats that sag to the point where I am sitting on the seat legs that cause leg cramps. If it proves helpful, I may even try one for patio all-metal chairs.

I got a little inflatable seat pad from REI a few years ago and it's been great on my Hobie with the old style seat - it's like a mini thermorest pad. I expected to puncture it with a hook pretty quickly but it's held up great. Sadly I don't think they make it anymore. If it does bite it I guess I'll look up one of the options mentioned. Thanks for the recommendations.

Cheers,
Brad

Just came in the mail. Amazon Prime. I also have the old Hobie seat. Now thinner than flattened leather. Usually I put a couple pads under seat but not the best for comfort. Good reviews. Eighteen bucks. Deflate and put in PFD pocket. Maybe in April an actual kayak test.

I like the look of that one for easy portability!  Would be nice to carry that when fishing rivers and want to take a load off for a bit.
