Have tried to figure out what the best and smallest LC reel is that has a left hand retrieve option.  The Abu Garcia 5501LC seems like a standard choice, but wondering if there is something smaller out there.  I've got a Abu Garcia Kokanee Special that I really love for trout fishing, but sadly no LC.

I took another stab at comparing ones online, and just found https://daiwa.us/products/lexa-lc  That seems like the lightest smallest one I can find, 1/3 less weight than the 5501LC and looks fairly compact.  Also a 6.3:1 which seems faster than all the ones I have checked.

What do you use or recommend?

I have been using the Lexa lc 100 for a couple years exclusively for trolling for trout. Seems to be holding up fine. Has bit of a cheap fit, and finish feel to it.

Al, I picked up a Abu Garcia Max DLC at the Sportsman's Expo. I've used it twice now and love it. Perfect size for Trout and Kokanee. The digital line counter is awesome! No fogging or having the reset button stick like conventional LC's do. It has a warning beep when you are 16, 8 & 4' from rod tip when retrieving and a backlight on the read out.
They have L & R hand models. They go for about $105. You wont regret getting one!

Boy that does look pretty good on the specs, almost twice the drag of the lexa, a 6.4:1 and about the same weight.  Gonna look for a video on the functions.

Another thing I like this about this reel is when you are letting line out and get a hit, all you have to do is let go of the lever. No need to grab the handle and turn it.

I just saw that on this video: :smt007 https://youtu.be/nlywhVdTwGI?t=641

This reel has more features than any other I've seen.  Pretty much sold, but will wait and see if there are other suggestions.  This seems above the rest however so far.

What line do you like for trolling?  I've been using 8lb mono and a Okuma Kokanee Ceillio 7ft rod, good and whippy limber rod.  Figured the mono gives more stretch for kokanee, but wondering if people like to use flouro or braid for trolling.

I was going to suggest the Okuma coldwater low profile reel as I know several people here use them.  But damn, that Abu Garcia isn't too bad at that price!

I have a few of the lexa 100lc. They work well. I saw that Abu digital and it looks nice, maybe when one of the other reels stop functioning I can look into it more.

I use braid with a top shot of mono. Something like 15lb braid with 50ft of light mono for topline trolling. Less for downrigger trolling. More if it’s somewhere like Tahoe that’s super clear water.

I've been using the Okuma Magda Pro over the 20 years. I've got 4 of them in several iterations used mostly for trout fishing.
Model MA-20DLXT

It's the same reel I've caught my PB trout (15lb @ 28in).  They're very reasonable when I first bought one at $30each. Not sure if the quality is still decent.

I just saw this at Walmart for $43

I've got a Daiwa Accudepth 17 (right hand) but I prefer the lefties so I still use the Magdas.

I have one for saltwater, but just feel like it's too big for kokanee and my ultralight rod.  These other two are only 8.x oz compared to the 12.7 so 1/4 more weight.  I do love that Okuma cold water reel for rock fishing, and plan to use it for trolling this year too.

Since you have one, how do you like it?  I like the design of it, but haven't found a review of it yet.
