I just completed mine a couple weeks ago.  I left the type of fuel section blank like one other previous NCKA member suggested, but they would not accept that even though there isn't a selection for battery or electric.  Also, they wouldn't accept Hobie's Manufacture of Origin that was sent to me because it didn't have a hard signature.  I had to go to where I purchased it and had the dealer stamp and sign the form.  Its a crap shoot depending on which location and who helps you.  Major PITA but i'm now legal.

If anything can be taxed and monetized, CA will surely find a way to make it happen.

When I registered my AI a few years ago, I had to pay over $500. I was hit with the 7 prior years that I didn’t register, even though I never had a motor in prior years. Consider yourself lucky.
DMV counts the year you purchased your kayak. Their system does not count the starting date of when you install a motor. So if you bought your kayak 10 years ago, but only register it now, you still pay for 10 years of registration. Their system punishes honesty. That’s California. Was just looking at the laundry list of fee's the DMV can charge for vessel registration: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/agents-handbook-for-registration-of-undocumented-vessels/vessel-registration-fees-and-use-tax/

Did you have to pay for the Mussel Fee?  https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/vehicle-industry-registration-procedures-manual-2/vessels/quagga-zebra-mussel-fee/

That's news to me that they found another way to charge for mussel inspection stuff...

Yes, they got me for that also.  Figured I had to since I often fish the Delta.

I’ve gone in 3 times, to encounter 3 separate idiotic interactions.

I’m not going to register until I’m cited. I’ve spoken with AlaCo sheriff boat while on a lake, with my bixpy, they said nothing. I’ve spoken with 2 different DFG agents, neither cared about it and were more interested in my fishing license and catch.

The only place I’ve encountered funk was at the Pardee lake entrance kiosk, with an over enthusiastic gate agent who refused to let me enter - so I left and went to Amador for the day. Never had much luck at Pardee, and its too expensive to fish anyway.

DMV doesnt make mistakes,….love it!

I always try to be honest, but I make an exception for the DMV. When I registered my AI trailer, I became even more cynical, if that’s possible…

Anyways, if they are going to charge you for the time you’ve owned the boat, why can’t you say that you bought it used last week?
I don't like stuff that sucks.

There is a word honesty somewhere in there.  :smt005
