I'm headed out to Santa cruz next week, anyone able to head out? After reworking my rigging and adding a livewell and sibiki I think my odds are much better. Still don't know the area super well, but I think I found the reefs.

I'll be out as soon as the swell dies down. From the harbor webcam, it still looked pretty intense this AM.

It was still breaking across the mouth yesterday. Ugh...shouting into the void!! I'll take a look at the harbor tomorrow afternoon. I'll be out as soon as the swell drops.

I just looked at the harbor entrance cam - pretty foggy (drizzle), but during the minute I looked, the swell was not rolling into the entrance.  And I believe I saw a kayak angler going out the entrance, looked to be heading east.  Maybe the angler will give us a report, some do that kind of thing.

Where do you guys usually launch out of?

I've been thinking about checking that area out as well (I typically go north but I want to try south eventually too)

Do you go for rock fish out there? New to the sport and don’t know many spots and want to try to get out. The swell and wind looks like good conditions to me but not 100% sure.

I launch out of the boat harbor. There's a floating dock right by the entrance to the west parking lot.

Yes rockfish are the most common fish that you'll find out there.

I normally launch from the SC harbor. the side opposite the crows nest.

Yes, the "A" dock and the "F" dock on the west (Aldo's) side of the harbor are the places to launch a normal kayak. If you have something unwieldy (AI or PA, for example), the launch ramp on the east (Crow's Nest) side is easier, but you'll have to deal with power boaters...

There was still a decent surfer's swell this morning in Capitola and Pleasure Pt (just to the west of Capitola), but nothing big, and wind O.K., so I'm going out from SC "Aldo's" yak ramp in the morning, 6:30 or so, heading out past the Mile Buoy trolling for hali's.  You're welcome to tag along, but with my record recently, you might be better off heading in the opposite direction.
