I was in San Diego with the family the last couple of days. I got an ear infection, so was not having much fun and decided to head home early. The wife and kids are still in SD for a couple more days.

When I got home yesterday, I found that a tree had fallen on the power lines, broke off the pole next to our house. That pole did some damage to a car, and cracked the windshield on another car. Strangely, the power was still on, and no neighbors had noticed, so PG&E was unaware.

As bad as it looks outside, the worst damage was inside, as the microwave, a direct-vent propane heater, tankless water heater, and pellet stove are all non-functioning. The propane heater and pellet stove are both on surge protectors, so I was surprised that those were damaged. And I always turn off the power to the water heater when we leave (I had turned it off, but turned in back on for "just a minute"...).

The pole fairy put in a new pole last night. I have experience with trees on the power lines damaging the service entrance, so I was able fix that and the power was reconnected today. Electricity restored!

The next priority is hot water. I called Rheem today. I'd assumed that the control board would need to be replaced, but they had other ideas. Later, when pondering the phone call, it didn't seem to make much sense, so I'll call them again tomorrow.

Anyways, if anybody has any thoughts on how to diagnose the water heater, let me know!

What power company? Sounds like a surge from the power line fried things I am not positive but the power company may be liable for the surge damage.Or your homeowners insurance should cover it all.

Apparently, a new control board and new blower are both needed, so about $500 fix. Will get the parts tomorrow, and it looks to be straightforward operation.

I don’t think I’ll file a claim on homeowners insurance, as the cost won’t go much over the deductible.

Got the power and cable/internet restored. Of course, now the power and internet are down, thanks to PGE. Anyways, the only critical thing remaining is hot water. Then it’ll be car repair time…

Btw, does anybody know where I can get a tailgate for a 2013 CRV?

Is PG&E paying for your vehicle damage?  From your photos, it is very clear that the PG&E pole damaged your car and I think they should be responsible for the damage.

I am sure you already filed a claim from this site.  https://www.pge.com/en_US/residential/customer-service/help/claims/claims.page

No, I have not filed a claim with PG&E. Believe it or not, we are responsible for trimming the trees along our street, which is more that 1/10th of a mile long. We don't own any of the land along the street, and some of the neighbors are a bit wacky. I've taken this issue all the way to the California PUC, and they sided with PG&E. So, the tree falling is not going to be their fault, which means that the damage to the car is not their fault. I suppose I could sue the neighbor who owns the land, but that'll cost more than I could hope to collect.

But, now that I think about it, I will file a claim. It seems like the power surge could be the responsibility of PG&E. It can't hurt to try...

I would file two claims one for power surge and one for your vehicle damage since it was damaged by PG&E Pole.

I did a few searches on pick & pull inventory sites and on eBay... nothing local listed with a CR-V of that generation on the lot (they're all previous gen).  A few on eBay, but for $2k :(. Best of luck finding one.

That's the previous gen.  The 2013 ran from '12-'14.  For reference, the part number for the 2013's tailgate is 68100-T0J-A80ZZ.  Fitment cross reference confirms this part was only common on the 2012-2014 vintage CR-Vs.

My bad I misread the year....

If you think your gonna need a lot of parts. I’ve gotten a whole parts car from copart . It’s an auction. Maybe you can grab a front damaged vehicle and grab everything you need and send it to ur wrecking yard after.
