GW sighting / MB for those who care

there was a GWS sighting by ;local fishermen as well as scuba divers on August 5th gps waypoints near Aumentos reef:

N36 38.315 W121 55.334

the fisherman who saw it said it looked to be appx 2000 lbs.

i freedove near some folks from seasniper last year south of lovers pt for a couple of hours and we cut our dive short as one of the guys had dove down on top of a gws himself.

im still heading out to otter cove on sunday morning myself to do some diving but wanted to give you all a head's up about the various activities of the local sea creature population.

put the fish in the kayak and all should be good right? i'll leave my weight belt fish stringer at home.

Will someone please post some reports about WFO salmon fishing, huge lings, and windless conditions. Too many sharks and sinking kayaks lately!

Just kidding...it's good to hear this stuff, but I think it's being hyped a lot lately in response to the Bean Hollow incident...I'm guilty of it too; I just bought a bunch of pool noodles today to stuff my kayak in case of a mishap.

well, i saw on tuna wranglers last night and one way they drive away sharks coming into their tuna pens is to actively pursue them and 'make them think they're the victim, which confuses them and don't attack' so there you have it.

From all the recent shark footage I've seen, it seems that you would be better off holding on to the spear. If the shark approaches you, jab the spear toward it or poke it in the nose. You may have to do this a few times, so you don't want to lose your spear.

so much for the 'avoid bean and ano nuevo' theory!  Maybe its that bad boy the aquarium released around there.  I heard the shark was in Mexico but maybe its like a salmon coming home

A guy I ran into recently said that van sommeran told him that the big sharks in residence at ano for the season run off the smaller 10-14 foot ones and they tend to move up and down the coast looking for a good spot to own for the season.

don't know if it's true.
