Gimme Shelter Master Roster - 2/14/21

Rainy, gloomy day today - I finished up a project where I've been compiling a master list of all who have ever attended GS.  I have 574 people on the list.  Reading through old threads was nostalgic to say the least.

I'd normally be taking in registrations and building up the stoke for the tourney at this time of year.  After having to cancel last year, when we finally get to assemble again it should be as energized as ever.  I really look forward to that.

I intend to keep old traditions alive, but I also want to change things up to some extent.  I want to make the event more of a festival and to keep moving in the direction of maximizing family and kid involvement.

Some things I'm considering:

- booths where people can sell art and gear and maybe even food;
- blow up the gyotaku fish printing even more - possibly incorporate it into the competition;
- paddle/pedal race;
- organized perch fishing for kids and shore-bound guests/family of competitors;
- seminars focusing on salmon, halibut, rockfish, lingcod...etc. - could be educational, trivia competition, life cycle info, advocacy opportunities...

Covid has changed life for all of us, and we are getting older all the time!  Looking through the master list I see a few dear friends who are no longer with us, and I see some who were involved and have moved along.  I also see how the energy that we shared kept building and how our community had embraced the Cove.

I look very forward to continuing the traditions of Gimme Shelter.   

I really want to participate in the tournament one day.

Right on Eric, Digging the new vibe !!! It has always been kind of a festival to us visiting all the different groups over the years. when I first joined NCKA years ago I used the master list from the GS tourney through out the year to remember peoples call sign and names. Christine and I can't wait to be camping and breaking bread with our NCKA family !!!

I like it, Joe.  We'll see what we can pull off when the time comes.

People are getting vaccinated, numbers are going down...  We still need to watch out for each other, but I think we might be able to pull something off this year.

I talked to my gear guy today - he's ready to go, and so am I.
