Hi All,

Been mostly bank fishing and finally decided to try yak fishing.  Still deciding on the yak -  but leaning towards revo 13 for the pedal drive and weight.
Still got lots to buy and learn and hope to meet some seasoned yak fishermen to learn from.

thanks and have a good weekend all. :smt001

Welcome to the club!
Own a revo 11, love it! Would like some more room, enjoy what I got for the price, and the weight.

Hi Guys,

Hope everyone is doing well.

Was supposed to get the yak today but a last minute thing came up so it looks like it will be next week now.

From utube I gather the Garmin striker CV transducer is not going to fit the Revo 13.  So I should get the striker 4+?  Any advise here is appreciated !

Thanks in advance and nervous about drilling into my new yak, hope I don't mess it up.

have a good week end all.

What's up Salty,

There's a few of us out here PM me and I'll try to link you up with a few guys who rock Revos plus a list of spots in hobie range that typically produce. Don't forget you can just plumber putty the transducer (inside the hull) instead of using the through hull cut out that they provide.

Rocks & Dungies ~120-150 FOW have been slow the last few weeks. I'm repositioning tomorrow to 90 and 30 since I've been seeing the youtubers picking crab up off the beach in SF.

I picked up a decent vermillion in 112 last Tuesday. I've been diving consistently the last few weeks and finding nothing in the <40 FOW along Del Monte. Kelp beds on Coral continue to produce ok blues and blacks. I ran into at 5x 30" lings while spear fishing in 30 FOW. They were all in the center column at the end of the breath hold so no shots taken.

I saw a huge ling come out right next to coast guard. I prefer not to fish that area personally but it had to be 32 + and extra fat.

Shrimp has been doing better than squid for me - I pulled a pot 2 days ago and found alot of spot prawn babies so maybe that's why.

Hope you can get out there before Rocks close. Fishing in the winter is fun (sand dabs) + I met my first Salmon @ 32" (out of season release) a few weeks ago.

Welcome to the madness! Excellent choice with the Revo 13. Great info from Yakal.
Del monte beach is the perfect place to practice self-rescue and test the limits of your new kayak btw. Everybody should practice falling off and climbing back onto their kayak...so when it happens offshore, you don’t stress out or have to think about it—with enough practice it becomes muscle memory. :-) MBK usually offers kayak safety courses which are extremely helpful btw.
I mostly fish the Monterey area and have owned a Revo 13 (upgraded to Revo 16 a few years ago) so I might be able to help if you have other questions. Drilling holes into a new yak can be intimidating at first—but it’s actually one of the fun parts about fishing from a kayak!

Hey @yakal thanks for the great tips. The one about the milk crates is so simple but brilliant and should be in the sticky Topic: A sticky for ocean newbie questions.

Hi @sin coast!  Hope all is well with you. I got a question for Yakal and you.  Would it be better to just get the revo 16 instead of the 13?  My fear was that I would not be able to car top it to my honda accord.  I will be using a J rack ( thanks on this tip Yakal)  and it is the extra 3 inches of the Revo 16 I was worried about.  Never having car topped anything,   I keep having thoughts of a long kayak flying off the roof.  I think it should not be an issue but I would appreciate any advice.

I am so glad that I joined Norcal, and hope to meet some of the members on the water soon.  Have a great week everyone.

While the 16 is three feet (not inches  :smt002) longer, I don’t think it creates THAT much more drag than the Revo 13 during transport. On the list of pro’s & con’s of the Revo 16 vs 13 debate, it (additional drag) would rank pretty low on the list. But when it comes to general/overall portability, the 16 is definitely harder to pick up and carry around because the extra length is awkward. For car-topping it on an Accord, I would not use J-racks. I would strongly suggest you put the kayak directly on the crossbars upside-down. You’ll get better mpg and less drag.
The 16 is an awesome fishing machine, I love it. But I’m also planning to downsize back to the Revo 13 because my fishing habits have changed in the last few years...I’m just doing less long-distance offshore fishing adventures and more short-distance family trips.

Hey everyone,

@fishmotion, @sin coast,  thanks for the advice.  Seems they do not manufacture the Revo 16 any more so I am proceeding with the Rev0 13.  Located a 2020 model and will probably get that one vs the 2021 which is 300 more for no new features over the 2020 model.

I have been using the windy app for wind readings but they also have a reading for swell size.  For a kayak what swell size is generally too big to fish?  I am thinking anything more than 5ft which is what I use for surf fishing.  What is the max swell size do you guys think is safe?

take care guys and keeo safe!

My understanding is that the revo13 is a fine fishing vessel. Hope you get sum..

You should probably read up in the safety forum if you haven't done so already...

If you're new to the water, I would suggest starting on a lake or such for practice. Swimming pool? if you have it would be convenient 2 dork around some.
