I heard they run hot and die. Truth?  The water cools them supposedly.

But some kayak guys glue them inside their hulls?  Or mount them to their bass boat trolling motors.  They cannot possibly shut down and reboot between spots.

What do you think?  Hear anything?  I know I ran my Garmin in my garage for a day to burn down my battery. No issues.  But my hew Lowrance?  Scared:)

Not a problem. They can run its just a speaker and a mic. Happy fishing

Garmin recommends against it,

However a quick internet search didn't find anybody complaing that their transducer died because of it.

There have been times when I've turned on my FF as I'm getting all my other gear ready at the ramp - the unit stays on for 15 or 20 minutes sometimes with no ill effect noted.  Also, sometimes upon landing I get busy with other tasks and forget to turn the FF off - same result:  no problems so far.

Also - I've had at least half a dozen 'ducers glued to the inside of my hull, and they've worked great.

I recently looked this up myself. Garmin says transducers above 500W may get hot when running out of water. Most are well below that power output.

The transducer won’t work through air to mark fish.  Transducers installed in hulls are either making solid contact by means of a solid glue medium (No air bubbles) or by a water bath, keeping the transducer submerged and no chance of any air bubbles under the transducer.

Pretty sure everyone understands this.   I’m just trying to run down my battery in real time, not read air fish in my garage.

Just put it in a bucket of water.

I'm curious though, why do you want to "burn down" your battery? Isn't that a way to shorten its useful life?

Just to find out real time battery life w my FF. Better than using ohms law to try to figure it out mathematically (joking - I know it’s not ohms law)   We run down our batteries every-time we fish long trips don’t we?   We can’t keep topping off battery mid trip.

UPDATE. I fished two longer trips.  And collected data. Nocqua is sending me a replacement. My current battery sucks.   (I’d get it Tuesday but FedEx is slammed-okay, I assume they are moving the vaccine around and my battery is unimportant if i consider that) But I’m still buying Chet’s.  My 4-month old Nocqua wii probably drop below the volts to shut down my FF in six hours.  It tops out at 11.99 - 12.02V. Spring and summer I’ll be in my kayak at marathon levels.

I have Chet's battery and the Hook Reveal 5 and I also run it on full bright because my eyes are old and damaged.  I get 3 4-6 hour trips out of one charge and that doesn't leave it depleted.  The lowest I've seen it go on that 3rd trip is 11.2v, so still a fair amount of juice left.  You won't be disappointed.

unplug the transducer and run the battery out.  Use this formula to reveal exact run time.

ƒx˜k3#m/%™•∆=N/≤

No charge!

Sorry, Bushy, but you are clearly missing a square root in that formula...

NWM, that’s for the gel cell batteries.  For lithium ion, omit the square root.  Come on man, you should know this!
