I asked Lowrance about it last year.  "No problem," they said.  But if you're worried, fill a bucket with water and put the transducer in that.  It's not complicated.

Again. I meticulously ran the wires in my kayak.  Undoing my efforts to free the transducer - I can’t stomach it.
