I have had this question.  I like to have music on my bluetooth speakers when I am fishing on shore.  What I want to know is will that be an issue on a kayak in regards to fish getting scared from either the sound or the vibrations from it into the water?  Will they even notice if they are really far down?  I assume it will probably scare more the fish that may be on top.  Also in regards to safety, I dont have it really loud to where I cant hear anything else.  It is like the level where i hear everything around me but when it gets calm you here the music..

I’ve done it and it doesn’t scare them.

One recent day, I was fishing a kelp bed alongside another kayaker.  He was listening to podcasts and eventually music on his bluetooth speakers; I was silent.  He was catching; I was getting skunked.

Obviously there are tons of variables in play, but his music wasn't prohibitive.  I'll add that it was loud enough that I could hear it 25 yards away.

If you don’t care about upsetting purists about noise and understand that not everyone has the same taste in music and don’t care about that either then go for it.

It would be a courtesy to new hookup folks to let them know you listen to music on the water, and what kind of music, before you head to the launch because it’s a deal breaker for some folks and telling them in advance would head off any hard feelings.

Just remember, sound carries very far on water.   You might think you are playing your music low, but it carries a long way.  Just like talking, people were surprised when I could hear them talking from shore when I was out on the water.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

Interfere with hearing marine radio traffic?  Blissfully listening to your favorite music while missing a call concerning an important message.

I don't think people realize how loud their music is on the water. I personally cant stand it when people play music on the water. It sucks for people who are trying to get away from it all and unwind from the stress. When people play at low levels it is not as bad but it still can ruin the experience for someone fishing next to you. But hey, its a free country so do whatever you want. You could always rock some earbuds. Or just enjoy and appreciate the sounds and views the ocean provides

Hasn't happened to me on the ocean yet, but the river always has a few people who feel the need to force their music on everyone within 100 yards or more.

Just remember that a lot of people go out into nature to enjoy nature.

...or maybe it's just easier to say it will scare all of the fish. :smt003

I bought a cheap pair of Bluetooth wireless headphones (Air Pod knockoffs, like $20, cheap enough that I'm not losing a huge investment if I tip in) along with a pack of those dinky silicone "holders" so they don't go overboard if they fall out of my ear.

I get the ones that rest on my ear, rather than the ones with the squishy pad that sticks all the way in. In part this is so I can still hear the radio, but I also just have ear piercings that are in the way of  the burrow-deep-into-your-ear ones. My phone stays in the dry hatch, the ear buds have a button on them that lets me turn what I'm listening to on and off. It's great.

The batteries usually last more than enough to make it through a fishing day, and their little "holder" is a charger as well so even if they run out of battery I can just pop them into their holder for a little while.

Imo, and I say this as a Youth who enjoys his music, while I'm pretty sure it doesn't scare fish any more than your kayak already does it's also kinda rude to inflict your music on a "captive audience" of other kayakers who can't really get away from you if they don't like it.

I personally do not want to listen to music on the ocean - I want to hear the water and wildlife. If you want others to leave you alone, it might be a successful tactic.

I'm tempted to ask "How do you tuna fish?".  But I won't.

I appreciate the feedback, being new going out, I will be respectful of others if I am able to go with anyone here  :smt001.

I’d rather be fishing with people and not annoy them. Lol
