Anyone know of any good spots to surf fish near Watsonville area or somewhere close by. I am new to the surf fishing. I would love to get family out there.

Thanks.

I sometimes surf fishing at the Salinas River State Beach.

I have fished the beaches in Watsonville.  Just have to go out when its right.  There are times I have caught some, and then there are times I was just there for practice  :smt005

I do better at Sunset Beach catching surf perch than Moss Landing.

With all of the practice that I've had surf fishing, I keep thinking I might actually get good at it someday. But definitely not yet.

As for locations, Palm Beach must be good as I sometimes actually feel like I'm not just practicing there.

Zmudowski is my favorite in that area for family beach sessions...easy walk back to the parking lot and mellow surf. Lots of shells & treasures during low tide too. I’d suggest a carolina rig with a 3ft leader and a Gulp sandworm on a size 6 baitholder hook. Or if you really want to catch something, get some bloodworms or pile worms from ML Liquots in Moss Landing :-)

Yea, whoever said practice makes perfect was not talking about the surf..   :smt005 :smt005

I have had fun times fishing the surf at the various sandy beaches in Big Sur. Carolina rig with a 3-4' long mono leader using a watermelon colored perch grub works best for me. Just cast into the surf and use a steady retrieve. Might even land a rogue striper who lost the rest of the school!
