My friend and I are going out of Navarro River beach tomorrow morning. Super flat seas.
Hope you can make it.

Good luck , let us know how you did. I have been wondering how fishing and crabbing would be launching there. :smt006

I see you live in Elk, so you're probably familiar with the launch, but I've found Navarro to be an ass-kicker even on the flattest of days. Steep beach break that sneaks up at the last second.

Good fish out there, though. Good luck, be safe, and shoot video!
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

How was it? We went out at Russian Gulch the same day, forecast was for perfect conditions but a nasty south wind came up and the ocean turned rough really quick.

If we get calm seas after the 1st I will be itching to go crabbing at Navarro. Gotta be calm though, that shore break is wicked.

So FYI,
The fishing was not great but we got 10 Gopher, and assorted rock fish, no lings. All said we had a blast.
I thought I would let you guys know how we get in and out without getting trashed. We launch in the River go to the end, drag the boats to the north end of the beach and launch. No problems. Don’t try it unless the swell is 4’ or less. Crabbing is really great in the flats 300 yards out. I’ll be watching from my windows to see if you get rolled
Hope to see you on the water.

That's exactly what we've been doing. So far, so good. Swell height and period are key. Getting off the beach is easier than getting back on!
Thanks for the tip, if the sea ever calms down enough I'm itching to get out there with rings.

I've caught Lings both north and south, but haven't really found a good Rockfish patch there yet. Lots of small fellers and barely-keeper Blacks, and of course Gophers are everywhere... but there must be a Canary-hole or a Red zone out there somewhere. Just have to keep hunting.

Don't live up there but was on a weekend getaway a couple weeks ago and launched from Van Dame State Park and it was super easy, the waves were nonexistent which was nice. Hope you killed it!!

My family used to camp at Paul Dimmick twice a year for about 20yrs during the abalone heyday. We’d always go to the area north of the river during super-low tides and find abalone. The campers/party on the beach was always a fun experience haha. I always wanted to launch my kayak there, so thanks for the report & info! Saw a guy catch a huge hake from shore once...little did I know how rare that was.

Well it sure was nice out there today! There was a slight breeze and choppy seas when we launched, but both died down and it just got smoother as the day went on. Was hard to leave but we could see a weather front approaching, and things can get hairy fast at Navarro.
Fishing wasn't very good, we caught a few rockfish but there just wan't much of a bite. We each came home with two Dungies though.
It's a lot more work to get out and back at Navarro than most of the other Mendocino launch sites. Fishing isn't any better there either. But for some reason I really like going there, on those rare days when it's flat enough.
Thanks bluebarge for the morning report and going out with me. Great day!

Right on Tim and BB, that place seems like it can quickly be an adventure.
