Anyone going to HMB on the 10th this Saturday?  I new to kayak fishing and don't have any kayak buddies.  I have read most of the safety post and practice self rescue already, but don't want to venture out of the jaw until I have gone out with an experienced fisherman.  If not, I'll just stay inside the jaw and fish around there.  This Saturday looks calm, according to https://tides4fishing.com/us/california/pillar-point-harbor.  I have the following safety gears: bilge pump, visibility flag pole with light, PFD, wetsuit, VHF Radio, knife attach to PFD, whistle attach to the PFD.  Do I really need a compass?  Fish Finder have GPS, VHF Radio have GPS, and Phone have GPS.

Having a compass and knowing how to use it still important. Too many what ifs can happen and compass does not rely on electricity. I think mounted to the boat is better than handheld as it is there when you need it.
Heard salmon are in the harbor.

It can get very foggy at hmb, so a compass is a must.  If your electronics all crap out due to a flip or something, having a compass (and knowing how to use it) would help navigate you back to the harbor.  I learned this the hard way

On the topic of fog...get the Navionics app for your Smartphone. I've navigated through 30' of visibility out 6 miles at Point Reyes and back, all using that app. Not smart perhaps, but it's spot-on accurate and could save your butt. Just make sure your phone has a full charge and use airplane mode.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Fog will be thick everywhere along the coastline.  Make sure you have GPS or at least know how to use your compass properly.

HMB for Friday and Saturday is looking better on MS. I may head over on my little inflatable i9 (a topwater lure for WS). I often just venture a couple hundred yards outside the jaws if I'm not feeling it. It it's clear and calm enough I'll go out to the buoy if others are around. Inner harbor is a pond and outer harbor is a small lake, so great place to start out and get comfortable.

If a seagull poops on you, statistically it was no accident.

I hope to see you guys out there.  I made a bunch of jigs and flies that I'm dying to try out.  Now that I have a kayak, I can do a lot of lure testing  :smt001.

I will be there. Seagrass yellow hobie compass.  Watch out for the thick fog in the morning (hang a lantern on your net) and strong south wind starts around noon.

I'll be there tomorrow on a seagrass yellow passport, but without rods.  I'll be practicing self-rescues inside the breakwall.
