Hi all
Omfng
Got out at 2am Wednesday
Got two vehicles with clothes pets and guns and a few other things. We were actually somewhat prepped and for that I am grateful.
Reports from our neighborhood are bleak. Many structures gone.
We’ve got a secure place lined up for now in seabright area.
Thanks for all of you who have reached out. I may call in favors and offers of help in the coming weeks as we learn more.
Aaa already has contacted me for a potential claim and im like wtf maybe? For now I cannot even access the place.
Peace and safety to all in the path of this monster.
I’ll update as I learn more
Sean

Sean,
So glad you guys are safe! Let’s talk soon.

Talking to a friend on his boat out at Bolinas today (8/21)...there are kayakers on the water, at least 3.  I debated going today too but the idea of driving there and being in the way of first responsders and residents should there be an evacuation just didn't make sense for me.  I felt like a total a-hole for even considering driving there, given that the Woodward fire is still 0% contained.

I am partly jealous, I admit, but I do find it baffling that the selfish desire to fish outweighs something as dire and life impacting as a forest fire....and that the desire actually wins out over common sense.

Fisherman (Kayak) and common sense are not mutually exclusive :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Fires gonna burn. People gotta eat... I'll be home too. Waiting for that plume of smoke or the phone call..... Stay safe everyone and Wiemar can be a safe space if you need one....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Another round of thunderstorms coming through. Everyone should be having a plan now. Gas your vehicle up. Make sure battery isnt dead if you havent driven in a while. Pack a go bag with essentials. Take an inventory of your house for insurance. Upload to photos to cloud storage. A little late, but make sure you have defendable space. Clear gutters and debris away from house. Cover crawl space and attic vents with fine mesh or sid covers. Stay safe and prepared my friends. If you need help this weekend let me know.

Sheriff’s Helicopter Night Rescue of Firefighters

On 8-21-20 at approximately 8:15 PM, the Sheriff’s Office received a request for Henry 1 to respond down to the Woodward Fire, which is burning in Marin County in the Point Reyes National Seashore, southwest of Olema. Two firefighters with the Marin County Fire Department were deep in the brush battling the fire when they became trapped on a ridgeline and unable to make it out of the path of the advancing fire.

Upon arrival, Henry 1 located the two firefighters who were trapped approximately 75 yards from the head of the fire.  Henry 1 landed approximately a mile from the firefighters and H1’s Tactical Flight Officer (TFO) configured the helicopter with a 100 foot long line. Both Firefighters were rescued simultaneously, as one placed a Bauman Bag rescue device and the other in a horse collar rescue device. They were successfully flown to safety.

The incident was captured on video **brief use of graphic language warning** and the video and additional information can be found on the Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page at the following link:

Even heroes need heroes. Seriously evacuating when told it’s dangerous is no joke. Be ready and be safe.

Badass rescue.

Got news this morning that friends lost their home and 3 cabins on 4 acres in Brookdale (Santa Cruz Co.). Fortunately, all family members are safe.

Hi all.
We finally got through the road closure and were able to get to the house. It is still there for now but is very close to active zones.
We secured what we could and doused everything and got out.
Just unprecedented wreckage along the drive.
But for now our immediate neighborhood is safe, as fire burned across empire grade just above us at Vic and conifer then down into fall creek
Amazingly most of our other close friends on sunlit and feather also still have homes. We have several friends though that have lost everything
Thank you to all who have reached out, I’ll respond to your pm’s in time.

Nowhereman ?

Thanks for asking.

We're doing well. The mandatory evacuation extends from Scotts Valley north to Summit Road, and we're on the Santa Clara county side, about 1/4 mile from the summit. So, no evacuation for us. And from what I can see on the maps, it looks like the actual fire zone is almost 7 miles away, so there's no immediate threat. Barring any weird wind, or more lightning strikes, or a plague of locusts, or whatever, I think we'll be fine here.

Btw, this is a pretty cool map based on NASA satellite images. If you click on the dates across the bottom (starting with August 16), you can see how the fires progressed:
