Hi all. I look forward to learning more about kayak fishing beautiful Monterey Bay from this board.

I’ve been kayak fishing a bit. Way back in the nineties I bought a used Scupper Pro and spent one season fishing off of Malibu. But wiping out in the surf got old real fast, so I got a boat and fished San Diego. Years later my wife and I started spending a lot of time down in Cabo, and I shipped a few kayaks there to launch off of Palmilla beach. Starting with a Trident 13 and later a peddle Revo13, I fished there on and off for 6 years. In that time I managed to occasionally catch tuna, dorado and amber jack, but mostly I was happy to land Cabrilla. Eventually we sold the Cabo condo, moved up to Monterey County and I shipped my Revo up here.

Last Thursday I finally got my chance to fish Monterey. Figuring the best way to acquire local knowledge was to hire an experienced guide, I connected with Allen Bushnell for my maiden voyage. And while the halibut weren’t cooperating we managed to catch a bunch of rock fish on frozen sardines, more than enough for dinner.  Next I hope to launch out of Stillwater Cove and maybe Moss Landing.

My goal is to learn the area, have fun, get some exercise and catch my dinner. I look forward to meeting other anglers on NCKA and I thank you all in advance for helping this NorCal newbie learn the ropes.
