Not as OG as most of you on this thread, but I've  seen my share of stuff around here. Still one of the top posters I guess, but that means I never have anything to do and hang out on the computer a lot I guess.

Time passes quick! Life is so full of fun and adventure. Glad I've been a part of this group. More adventures in the future too!!! For all the new and new(ish) folks.... We were all there once and now... Still here and having fun... Add to the magic that is NCKA. I'm sure this group still fishes beyond the grave! Thanks y'all for putting up with our Family bashing and crashing around in your lives....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

So who here was on the old Yahoo newsgroup or Jim Sammons' site, the pre-cursors to NCKA.  One day Jim's site was down and within days we had NCKA, courtesy of Papa Bill!

-Allen

Or, Allen's Kayak San Diego. Predated Sammon's Board.  We all have Papa Bill to thank for NCKA startup!  I got to fish with him surfcast  a few months ago in Pacifica, BTW .  He lookin good!

I started out on Spike's site sometime around 1999.
I checked out Jim Sammon's site, but it wasn't really what I was into.
I remember Elric's site existed but that's about it.
Then I met Joel at one of the early Kayak Connection meets and he sent me here. I'd made a little halibut art piece that got us talking about what would eventually become the "sunset paddler" piece for Bill.
Took me a long time to actually join a hookup because I was mostly solo fishing then.

My first NCKA hookup was at Bean when Dan's yak got hit by a shark :smt005.
When did NCKA meet at that (long gone) little Hawaiian joint in HMB :smt005? That's where I met Tote!

Yea, I was on Spike's site too way back in the day because that was all I could find.
Randomly met Mike Mowrey at Sly Park Lake when he told me of a kayak fishing tournament in Santa Cruz.
Other people fish from their kayak??????? Who knew?
$25 to enter, biggest fish wins a Prowler 15.
Seventeen people entered.
First person I met was Bushy in the Parking lot around 4:30am.
Found out about NCKA at the BBQ following the tourney.
I was blown away at how nice everyone was on and off the water.
Right then I knew I had to sign up and the rest is history.
And Ono Grill was off the hook! I remember.  :smt002

F'n OG's talki ng about back in the day and complaining about how all the OG's got soft and drifted away to boring ass lives ;)

Best group of people I've ever known.

Now, lets get back to the real BB's where everything is in an unnavigatable thread structure, theres no such thing as search (who uses it anyway) and people get together outside with fishing shit, kayaks, and crappy cars. The way it should be ;)

Less Mental than before, Still savage AF tho <3

A lot has changed over the years … mostly good and a little bad.
I was introduced to this group by an employee of mine Patrick (GoldenArrow). Signed up in 06 as FishKaai, but soon deleted account. Re-signed up after Paddle-n-Flies (Rickey Mitchell) gave me the Yakhopper name and that seemed to fit.
First event was Bendo at Mendo III. Had a great time and was amazed at the brotherhood.
Little side note,
First member I met even before Patrick pointed me to NCKA was none other then Joel aka MOOCH and of all places … in San Diego.
Later as I was camped next to Mooch at Mendo III, He says to me that i looked familiar and so a friendship was formed (I sure miss him)
Thanks to Patrick, Joel and Rickey, I have met some of the greatest people and most are like family to Verna and I.
NCKA has had such a great impact on our lives, we even chose where we live and what we do from our experiences through this group.
I guess i could actually say we wouldn't be where we are today without NCKA.
Thank You All for the great ride.
