I ALMOST forgot to post a report.

Inspired by a fellow member  :smt003,  we decided to head south for some fish, shellfish that is.

Too bad lobsters weren't in season, else they would have been added to the pile as well!

Are those all clams? The ones in the front look "weird." What type are those ones?

Looks like dinner for a week!

Thanks,
PK

PK,
The "funny" looking ones are actually rock scallops.  The other ones are pismo clams.  FRESH Rock scallops are now my favorite shellfish.

Joel,
You may THINK you know the whereabouts of XJ-69, but there are only 2 other peeps on this planet that know the whereabouts.  Unfortunately, you are NOT one of them.  :smt044

can you post a pic of the inside of a fresh rock scallop. always been curious about how they get that nice white meat out of a scallop. for a while i was thinking they're scooped out of rays in that shape...

...your other "peep" broke down and told me where your "secret spot" is  :smt002 He also mentioned what kind of "secret lure" you used to catch 'em  :smt003

James,
If you look closely at the second pic, its actually a rock scallop, not a clam.  The scallop meat is the white round centerpiece.  The viscera (guts) are the brown and orange stuff, which get tossed out.

Joel,
The "other" peep is about as tight lipped as one of those pismo clams.  Good luck prying any info out of him, though an ice cold coke might work. :smt002

The white bit in the middle is abductor mussle, a.k.a. the meat, the tan and black bit on the outside is the mantle and includes the eyes.  The orange bit at the bottom is the gonad. In Europe, they eat the meat with the gonads.
