So this is going to be my first report since joining-- begrudgingly, not a kayak report as I was with a group of non-kayakers.

We arrived at Lake Del Valle Sunday afternoon and fished west of the marina. There were many kayakers, boaters, and shore fishers and the bite was hit & miss for most (literally).

Towards the end of the afternoon I caught the first and only fish for my crew: a ~4.5lb rainbow, photo'd below. Caught her on an inflated nightcrawler with a 16" leader off the bottom.

Interestingly, I wanted to report she was full of eggs. Bizarre as I thought all trout in the lake were triploid / sterile?

One thought is she may have been a DFG broodstock fish? The non-orange meat (also photo'd) is evidence she may not have been a Lassen trout.

What are y'alls thoughts on this?

Tight Lines,

Wow good job. Yea I dont know what the secret is for those EBMUD trout. Maybe its just powerbait with like 4lb fluorocarbon.

Nice trout!!
The sterile fish still produce eggs or milt...its just not viable aka the eggs won’t ever “hatch”

Huh, interesting you say that because the eggs were very clear/translucent in a way I've never seen in salmonids before. Not orange-ish at all.

Thanks for the knowledge!
