It was great! I sprinkled salt, black pepper and cayenne pepper on it, then fried it in olive oil and butter for tacos and it came out really well, maybe a TINY TINY bit chewier than other fish, but still very good.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

Andrew was kind enough to share his boat-caught-humbolt squid with us.....

(I caught my verm with a 5 inch tentacle on a lead head jig from the H. Squid)

haven't had lunch with any friends since about 1997, the year my first son was born...

you gotta choose: fish or lunch!

My verm measured 21 inches (my biggest take) - caught in 30 FOW .....pretty shallow for a verm - me thinks.
I caught and released a few RF the rest of the morning.

Bill and Brian.....you can fish later if you want, but you won't get the "rockstar" parking  :smt002

speaking of crabs.....

We were talking about Bean Hollow being the one of the few places on the coast that has an amazing population of Cabezon....well, before we launched our yaks, Bill and I checked out the tide pools (the tide was really low) and noticed that the rock crabs were ALL OVER the place. Every time you took a step closer to  another tide pool, you can hear 'em diving into the pools. Never seen so many of 'em. We saw some that were picked off by the sea gulls too. Definitely a rich eco system....

Hey Mooch, any idea on how you would rig those crabs up for bait?  I've heard of people using them and the Cab I caught on Saturday had on in it's mouth but I've never been able to figure out who to properly use them for bait.

Use the stretchy thread that many use to tie a couple of grass shrimp together for sturgeon - and simply stick a hook under the thread...same manner in which you would do a wacky rig senko  :smt002  It would be better to de-claw the crab first - do so by pinching the crabs claw with pliers (don't yank it out) and the crab will detach itself (defensive mechanism - same with crawdads).  :smt045

Hey Mooch, whats with that stance of Bill in the background? Looks like he is making dooky in his drawers or scrathing......... :smt005. I would be careful trying out Bills Yak, he might have "crabs"............  :laughing7:
