I freeze the carcass till it's time to toss it. no stink.

except last wednesday night I was in a rush and tossed my just-purchased anchovies and herring
instead of my rockfish heads. so don't do that!

andrew, you are a brave man to eat that thing!

Oops, that sucks J.  Thanks for the freezing advice tho - good idea!

Yeah, in all honesty, I ate the eel one night but since I screwed it up and had no clue how to smoke it properly, I saved it for crab bait as it was very near crabbing season.  The rest of that eel meat in crab bait jars soaked for 3 days got me limits of jumbo dungies, so it all worked out!

I'll try getting the fat off...i think I filleted off a lot of it. As for salt and pepper, I never cook any white meat without seasoning any more. Nothing fancy, just salt, pepper, maybe cayenne pepper, then fry in olive oil and it's SOOOOO much better.
May the fish be mighty and the seas be meek...

We had fairly good conditions today. The wind never got too bad and the swell, while big at times, was about 10-15 minutes between sets so it was easy to avoid. The fishing didn't really pickup until around 9:00 am when I landed a nice 22" cab, next up was Malibu2's crazy wolf eel. That thing was freaky looking! Next I hear Joel screaming like a girl, "It's a red, it's a red!!" Then he pulls this nice fish out:

Chuck showed up about 8, paddled out, and in a short time had this nice Ling:

I then landed the biggest Black RF I have ever landed, a 20" bomber. I thought I had a big ling this thing pulled so hard at the beginning.

Not a wide open crazy Bean day but a fun day with great company.

I haven't had a red for a long time. I think I need to squid up, biggest red I got was on whole squid.

I haven't used bait for a long time and no reds.

chuck seems to be mr ling consistency at the bean. what's your secret chuck? big lure? live bait?

so the wind never blew too hard then? I had no wind from 7-9 but then it kicked on hard @ 9. I was south
of you guys a bit.

Damn, i guess I left too early. Joel, please post those eel pics you took. They'll look a lot more impressive than me standing on the sidewalk! You guys did well...good stuff.

Oh, the eel was great, by the way. Very nice meat with salt, pepper, and cayenne, and homemade salsa with corn tortillas.

Proof once again the fish don't care if I sleep in. I barely beat Chuck out on the water. It seemed like I got more fish in the deeper water than when we went in shallow.

On my first "chuck-toss de'yak" of the day, I got hooked up on jig as it was sitting in the rod holder. Chumming works great even at the Bean!

I was just using a squid tipped swimbait, but importantly, I look for structure.  If I'm not getting hung-up now and then then I'm in the wrong spot.

I think Brian is onto something.  He's right.  Rockfish don't care if we sleep in.  On my best days, it seems like the rockfish bite doesn't pick up till mid-morning.
