I'll be there - hopefully. I too was trolling inside the preserve. Paddled out to the bait boat, got bait and immediately pinned one on, forgetting I was in the reserve - DUH. I also got a late start, cuz I was with the misses conceiving my son - lol.
Exciting part of the tourney was getting picked up and hearing my clicker go off on my Avet SX - got too excited and pulled back a "crushed" bait - definitely a Yellow Tail bite that I blew.
Anyway - looking forward to the tourney and the party afterwards. Hope to hook up w/ some NorCal bros and represent!

More Moyer Memorial news:

Big fish and bass? You bet! Catch that monster, then double-up on prizes. Or just go after the biggest calico you can catch and release.

The United Anglers Calico Challenge is a free add-on for Moyer Memorial competitors. It is a single biggest bass catch and release contest for bragging rights, a plaque for your trophy case, plus a sweet inshore bass rod and reel combo.

Here's how it works. On tourney day, bring your digital camera and a measuring device. When you sign in, we'll give you a special tournament token. Catch a toad, then put it up against your tape measure and squeeze the token into the shot. Then let that trophy bass swim away. Bring your camera to the weigh-in. The longest bass takes the UASC prize pack.

Remember, this is an add-on event, free with your Moyer Memorial tournament entry. Go for big fish, go for bass, go for both - it's up to you.

Sign up now! The Moyer Memorial is the big daddy of west coast kayak fishing contests, with fantastic prizes, an incredible raffle, and lots of fun and laughs.

This year's Moyer - the Big One as one somewhat less than famous kayak fishing journalist has dubbed it, the Superbowl (TM) of Kayak Fishing Contests - is coming up soon! I hope some our NorCal brothers and sisters make the long 12 hour drive down to party with us down south. The fishing was pretty good last year. I remember plenty of YT, including one 12-lb unit weighed in by yours truly that was in the running for maybe 10 minutes. The year before it was ON the hook, YTs galore after an empty sea in the weeks prior. Come get yours!

And if you do make the drive, especially you Finished Biz vets who are all trained up on catching big calicos, bring a digital camera and a tape measure. Then, when you catch your trophy LJ checker, you can snap a tape shot and win the UASC Calico Challenge, a free add-on for Moyer competitors.

It is simple, simple, simple. All you have to do is snap a photo showing the entire fish laid against your measuring device. Let your calico swim away to get even bigger. Then bring your camera to the weigh-in (don't be late!), pop out the card, and we'll load that baby on the laptop. Longest cali gets a sweet rod and reel and (momentary) fame and glory.

Come on down to LoCal and represent. Don't forget your salmon net! (consider it showing the NorCal colors)

I am blown away by the generosity of our sponsors for this event.
Fed EX just dropped off cases and cases of Hobie donated sports bags and bottle coozies. So that means that every one that enters is getting one of these cool bags and in the bags will be an event T-shirt a Hobie bottle coozie, Maui Jim can coozie, Reebs lures, Fish Trap lures, a gift from Hook1 and a bottle of Uni butter.
We have kayaks from the best manufacturers in the business to give away to the winners, we have a kayatank, and three new Shimano bait tanks, five pair of Maui Jim Sunglasses and a ton more prizes.
The sponsors have really stepped up to support our event again this year, it is time for you guys to step up and get signed up.

Hi Yaker:

Last time my Buddy Dave H from Quallcom caught a 40 Lb WSB which was in WON. We made bait at Scripts pier by the lights at the end of the Pier. I caught the "Greenbacks on a "Owner" size 8 Mod. 5524-034 Sabkiki. The "Greenbacks" were fresh because, I used a 4" Bait tube which I posted a How-to. The larger "Greenbacks" require some trimming of their Caudal fin to slow them down.We paddled to the "Cove" and went out approx. 1 Mile where I caught my first YT on a Yak.
Too bad a Sea Lion ripped me off! I was using a Penn 505 with 20 Lbs. test and a #2 Egg Sinker with a "Owner" "1 Ringed Flyliner Mod. 5106R-101.
I wish I could go but, I need to Hook-up with a job before I can afford a long range trip.
                                                                                                                             Good Luck
You may pick up all you need at SquidCo! Check out Point Loma Seafoods, a Fishermans' style of restaurant at the waterfront.

When Cancer stops taking our friends then we will stop having this tournament. If you or your family and friends have never been affected by this illness then you have a pass. Other than that you have no excuse for not coming.
Hows that for pressure.
OF course I gave out twenty red hats on the unfinished business islander trip and $2000. to the Chef Stephano fund last year, but you guys should not feel obligated to come and support the event, no pressure at all :smt003

In all seriousness I know it is a hell of a long trip for you guys, we would love to have you all here, but understand if you can't make it.
