You won’t have to deal with a silly paddle if you just buy a skiff.  :smt005

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I picked up the nose of this thing back on land with it on the cart and it had the outrigger and motor on it.  It felt as heavy as my outback. I’ve seen a guy in Florida in one of his videos his motor died and he had to pedal back in. It’s doable.

He’s displaying a Bay Anglers flag so he may not be on this forum. Probably IG or FB mainly.

Designed to out fish all the rest of the kayaks for sure.  The purist in me doesn't like it but the rest of me is jealous...

one other pro is that he doesn't have to buy a boat since he made one out of his kayak.  Saving $$

I'm a purist as well, just only on days I fish in Big Sur  :smt044

Just wonder - since this can't be used for large sail (i.e. AI/TI vs. "hobie kayak sail"), what is advantage of this vs. inflatable kayak outriggers/sidekicks?

I can see pros of
- looks (!!) and
- tramp space

But
- $$$
- transport
- less drag OTW when needed, when not under motor (arms can be raised)
- ability to paddle

I hadn't thought about putting a motor on it, as even my AI is non-motorized. Instead, I was thinking an advantage would be greater stability and the additional storage space (tramp or haka-like), as compared to inflatable outriggers. The small Hobie sail would work great, and it would surely be untippable, even with just one ama. Another thought would be to rig a sail that's bigger than the small Hobie sail, but not AI-sized. So many possibilities...

I've been using AI in a single-arm configuration a lot, and liked it a lot. There are some tradeoffs (see above), which will apply here as well. Not sure about advantages (vs. AI), except cost and, maybe, use in kayak mode (Revo 15/16 could be less attractive than Revo 13 (?) )

Now, $$$ of parts for this setup, if buying new, w/o tramps, should be about $1,200. It's still cheaper than buying full AI in MSRP prices ($5,200 > $2,800+$1,200), but difference will be smaller when buying used / discounted base (parts are usually harder to find used/discounted). And labor / warranty will add up too. And this does not include 2nd set of AKA/AMA or sail setup.

Anyways, I'm sure it has its niche. And it sure looks pretty :)

Finally got in touch with the owner on another forum. The reason for this type of project for me is all the above suggestions. Cheaper than a new AI, Smaller than a AI to fit in my shed and easier to transport without an additional rack for my truck. The motor is mostly going to be used for Salmon Season. The trampoline can be used to store my fish bag and additional items. I will be using this type of setup for years to come. As I’m getting older I want to not have to work so hard to enjoy being out on the water. 😂😂😂

I think I'd rather be in the kayak on the ocean. Any boat that is safe in the ocean is probably too heavy to launch by hand.

I met him at Albion.  I think his name is John.   He has a cool dog that rides shotgun.

Only when you live your life by what other people think or when the tournament rules prohibit it.
