I’ll be camping at Limekiln Thursday through Tuesday and hoping the ocean is nice enough to explore the area. I launched from here last year and it was a steep beach launch but nice once out there. Only got a few blues, but still fun for my first rock fishing experience. Hoping for slightly better this time, maybe my first ling? Anyway, if anyone will be that far south for the weekend I would love some company on the water. Will have my radio on ch69. Anyone know if halibut and/or salmon are possible down there?

Salmon is closed as of yesterday south of pigeon point. IMO it wouldn't be worth targeting halibut, but they are always a possibility. Good luck out there! Lots of big rockfish to be had.

There's also a decent launch at the park just south of Kirk Creek - lots of kelp and structure out from there. I've dove it, but never hook and line fished there though.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Brad

Thanks Prohk and Brad! Just gonna target rocks, cabs and lings then. Will (hopefully) post a report of the fun!

Brad, I forgot to turn on my radio when I was out at Bolinas on Pacific Pearl but we did come into dux early and then left for the channel buoys. Hope you got into fish. We picked them slow all day to end up with a fish per rod. Some nice ones though.

I was right behind you at one point just west of Dux bouy - I hailed you on the radio :-) It was right as you guys were pulling up gear and heading out. I ended the day with an LDR of what felt like a decent fish.

Cheers,
Brad

You lucked out with this weather! It’s going to be beautiful.
When you launch & land, do it from the north side of the beach. That launch can be dangerous so don’t mess around in the surf zone. And paddle north towards Lopez Pt...the further you go the better (for rockfish/lings). There have been a few halibut caught in 60-100fow off the jasper sea caves (red/white cliffs below Sam Farr’s property) but it’s rare. If you launch from Mill Creek dayuse (just south of Kirk Ck campground), paddle south a few miles towards the boiler rock [chef’s kitchen]. Because the area right around the launch is surprisingly barren/unfishy. Keep an eye out for bonito boiling offshore if it’s clear enough to see far...you never know... ;-) Good luck!

Thanks for the advice guys. Didn’t have to go far for some action. Hit a close by kelp paddy just outside of the launch (north west) my first morning there and picked up a nice canary on my first drop. Second drop I have a 26” ling, my first ever! Keep both. Third drop I have a 32” ling in the net and I’m kicking myself for keeping my first ever ling! Shoulda let him swim, but instead it’s the big guy that gets to live. Oh well. Fished for another 1/2 hour for a nice copper and a decent blue then called it. Launched at 7, back at camp by 9:30. That was my best day. Rest of the trip consisted of taking my 8 year old nephew out to the paddy’s just out front for some grass and browns. He had a blast. He caught 6 over the next two days. We got blown off the last two days, but still a great trip. Awesome sunny weather most days, whales lunging on bait balls in the distance, incredible sunsets and sooo many stars at night.

Good looking lings!  Way to get it done, and putting your nephew on the fish is totally cool.   :smt001
