Hopefully the kayaker just got separated from the kayak and made it to shore safely.
Fingers crossed.

Cheap kayak, possibly no pfd? Hoping for the best... Wish folks listened and wore PFDs all the time on the water....
my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

I opened this thread expecting to see this one.  That's two on the same day, hopefully a better outcome down south.  I went to high school with Jeff, though we were not friends and did not keep in touch.  RIP

News out of Cambria is that the Coast Guard has stopped searching, but may come back with a larger vessel.

I have  the same kayak as in the photo (only exception is mine is blue), but I respect the ocean enough not to take an 11ft kayak out into open water (and I always wear a life vest).  Stories like these are far to common unfortunately.

I would say that the kayak is inexpensive but well made.

Well, no one found = Bummer!

Never go into the ocean along without at least one spotter.

and then even if you're not alone, it's a very good idea to tell a friend/loved one your plan for the kayaking trip, when and where you'll be on the water, when and where you'll be off the water, maybe even enable a locator service until you're back on land.

here's hoping all is well.

hopefully all is well but it doesn't look good.  What is really odd is that people onshore reported watching the kayak for about two hours as it was upside down before reporting anything.  Since there was fishing gear and fish onboard, I get the feeling that the person on the kayak flipped it and wasn't able to get back in.  I hope I'm wrong

A few things I learned from scuba diving that translate well to kayak fishing but aren't always practiced is to know your limitations, go with a buddy (not always practical when fishing), and let someone else know where you are going.

Its weird they did not find an associated vehicle nearby.  That's kind of difficult to reconcile considering the remoteness and lack of a missing person in the town.
I hope the fisherman is alive and well and just ditched the entire vessel, fish, etc on the ocean for a solid reason.  I have my strong doubts, but you never know.  Fingers crossed.

Word on the street is the owner fell out then couldn’t get back in, so he got a ride back to shore from another kayaker, then went home to warm up/recover. And still hasn’t reported it...? Just a rumor I heard though
