Spearfishing Sustainably 7.17 (Monterey dive video)

I started doing an info series for people to get a better understanding of whats going on in our Northern California waters. A lot of us above and below the water like to chase limits of fish because society tells us this is the bar that measures a successful trip. I myself have been guilty of that misconception and that isn't always the best route to take for a sustainable fishery. I'm teaming up with local film makers along with some of the industry bests to create a fun, exciting and informative freedive series for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks for the word. Your video reminds me of a spearfishing report a while back where, as I remember, the guy wasn't sure if the limit on sheephead was 4 or 5, so he stopped at 4 and took something else instead, bringing him to his 20-total-fish daily limit. What really turned me off was that 19 wasn't enough. He needed his limit. He had like a hundred pounds of fish. Can you imagine having to deal with that mess at home?!

Still Water South is in the top 2 most well known spots to dive and fish haha. Even more than L***rs P***nt. hahah =P

I really appreciate the work you're putting into the video and messaging. I've been working a bit behind the scenes (and launching soon) on a similar message communicated in a bit of a different way so I'm glad we can build some momentum together.

From a marketing standpoint (my career is in marketing and branding), I'd say if the goal of the video is to encourage sustainability, the question of "why?" should be answered. Maybe I missed it on my first 2 goes of the video. It would be nice to have some metrics on the devastation of overfishing, marine eco system, microplastics, etc. to justify your cause then speaking to why even though there are state set regulations, why do you personally encourage others to take less than what is legally allowed. That's just my two cents to help bolster your cause.

 SWS is one of the most fished and dove locations in the Monterey, The only reason why the pressure isn't as heavy as other areas of Monterey is because a lot of people wont pay the $10.50 to get in. There's tons of Fishing/Diving reports here on SWS and youtube, so saying I blew up SWS is similar to saying I blew up HMB of the San Mateo coast.

And I used to complain about too many people at Stillwater back in 2001-2007. At this point, the cats outta the bag. And since Papio is promoting sustainable harvest it makes sense to mention the location. There’s thousands of videos & reports from people at Stillwater online...and most are in the category of limits or bust.
