I went fishing Thursday and Saturday at Berryessa.  Thursday was one of the best days bass fishing I’ve ever had. It was amazing.  It was one of days that will come back over and over again when I think about fishing.

Saturday was OK but nothing like Thursday - and fortunately none of the Saturday party crowd at the lake came up where I was.  I spent both days with otters, ospreys, turkey vultures, ducks, geese, and I guess a bunch of jumping carp.

I launched around 7:15 Saturday morning and went directly to my ‘secret’ spot. I only saw three other boats up there all day.  I was shocked when I came back down about 3:30 and saw 15 boats anchored around and rafted up in various size groups by the main body of the lake.  But the weirdest part were all the white kids playing screaming loud rap music where every other word was the ‘N’ word.

I’m 65 and just never used the word, my parents didn’t either. And if I were up there with young children I’d be pretty bummed that they would hear it like that. Frankly, I’m more comfortable with F-bombs than the N word:  it’s just too weird.

Anyway, while I’m drifting in my kayak watching this cluster I saw a little shady spot by the bank and decided to take one more cast before heading in.  I skipped a weightless senko up to the bank and hooked up and landed a nice 16” bass.  Like I said it was weird.  I’ve thrown in a couple of pics of some other fish from up there.

I think modern wakeboard boats come standard with stereo systems that have pre-programmed gangsta ass music.  I kinda get a kick outta seeing middle aged bedroom community couples on the delta listening to the ridiculously shitty new rap music that 16 year old scumbags record in their bedroom at moms apartment.

Who woulda thunk that Jen from accounts payable and Bob in procurement we’re so hood?!?!

Congrats on an otherwise good trip. You want to know what's even more awkward? When I'm in my boat with my buddies who all happen to be minorities at berryessa trying to catch a fish or two, only to have a tricked out wakeboard boat with 6 white kids bumping that mumble rap, having a good ol time, then coming face to face with us, and then watching them immediately put their stereo volume down.

Hahaha what a great post!   :smt044 great fish report and some humor.  For the record, I love 90s gangsta rap and bump it with my 3 white friends on the way to fires in the fire engine.  Might not relate to the lyrics by the letter but the emotion comes through strong and I find it relatable and energizing at almost 40!  Hahahaha.

I think Ling's prefer a good gangsta Melody too cuz they bite a little harder when my Bluetooth speaker is rocking Dre.

Nothing wrong with anyone from any walk of life playing rap music, I love 90s hip hop. These kids in the wakeboard gotta show a little consideration for little kids and families they share the waters with though.

i always feel kinda bad as a retired guy being out there on the weekend. One thing the world doesn’t need is one more fat guy peeing in the pool on Saturday’s. But... the urge to fish often overwhelms common sense.

Sounds like me and my friends at 16. E40, mac dre, celly cel,  and a bunch of other stuff we loved but never could relate to, no matter what. I bet we looked soooo ridiculous blasting that stuff as white kids from Napa, haha.

8me!

You are 65????

You have the knees of a 53 year-old, no kidding.   Love the manspread shots.  Point that shit at those wakeboad boats.

You might get lucky with Jen.  Or, with Bob, for that matter.
