Having grown up in Richmond Ca. in the 70`s, I was the only "white" kid in my neighborhood for almost 12 years.

I grew up listening to mostly Funk,Jazz,RnB, and Soul along with some  Rock n Roll.

My favorite band is Tower of Power, my favorite vocalists are Etta James ,James Brown and Marvin Gaye.

When we moved to a different neighborhood I caught a lot of crap for my music choices by whites. 

When I listened to rock in the old neighborhood ..never caught any grief. 

Go figure.

For the record, for me, it’s not the music, it’s the N word. It’s just really weird as a lyric played on a boomer sound system on a crowded lake... really weird.

What pisses me off about the n word is that I can buy a song and hear it over and over again, but if I sing along with the song I am considered a racist and will be told I am not "allowed" to use that word.  If that is the case, then no one should be allowed to use the stupid word.

Hell, it is getting to the point I can't even call someone my brother unless they are white, which is more bullshit.  I called every guy my brother growing up and still do, but the looks I get from some black people on occasions pisses me off.  I am the furthest thing from a racist, but god forbid I call someone my brother.

I've come to the realization "The Shorty Be Mine" may be the apex of the written word.
