nah....I scoot up to get my hand on it. But having the quick draw helps cause you can just yank the rod out of the holder without having to reach out even further.

And I still prefer having a wide open deck as to having too much stuff in between the leg area....just in case I ever land a big Halibut  = like what  Alex caught on the SC Derby  :smt104

I ended up sticking the holder on the side of the boat- about midway down the foot rests (just behind where my feet are), same position as on my necky- i can grab the rod, its just out of the way for paddling.  You of course have to goop the beejeezus out of the holes.

more modifications:

-I added a small (black) round cutting board in place of the center hatch.
-Installed a magnet to the right of the FF that secures a pair of pliers
-I keep my burlap sack secured by permanently installed bungee cords on the bow right before the hatch.

How do you keep your burlap sack from stankin?  I have had mine for a couple years and have had every kind of dead thing in it that you could imagine.  Normally the smell wouldn't bother my but transporting it in my vehicle becomes a problem.

Travis - I've used the same burlap for almost 2 years. I just rinse it with water after each trip and leave it out in the sun to dry. Never had any complaints from the smell.

When transporting, I just roll it and stuff it into my crate and leave it at the back of my truck bed. Sometimes, I'll store it inside my kayak and just leave the hatch open so it can breath.

more modifications:

to "lighten up" my kayak, I decided to get rid of the crate and I drilled some holes to the marine dry box and to some pvc pipes. I then secured them with plastic ties.......

the other nice thing about this is that I can still open the box even with the rods in place...

This set up also allows me to carry the box together with the rods for easy transport. I just need to cap the bottom of the pipes and the project is done.

Please let us Prowler owners know how you like it.  I'm curious to know how secure it is.

That's nice Joel. When are you going to take it for a test drive?

I already did the test run at Steven's Creek - worked fine.

But, with the heavier salt water rods and reels, I'll have to use a bracket to reinforce the pvc to the marine box.

Joel, where did you buy the marine box? I like how it fits perfectly in the prowler.

West Marine sells the dry box (made by Plano) - make sure you keep the receipt - just in case the dry box does not fit - Dave had a green P15 and for some reason, the same plano marine dry box did not fit on his yak.  :smt011
