The Wohler Dam went up on May 9th. If anyone is going to chase Shad now I would focus your efforts down river from this area.

Sweet pic!
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

Yeah those were the days! Awesome times. Sometimes I try to relive them, but then I jump on the skate, eat some concrete and remember why I'm too old for that shit

The dam at Wohler Bridge that went up on the May  9th was taken down shortly after due to high flow and I believe is still down.
The Summer dams at Johnson's Beach and Vacation Beach are scheduled to go up June 15th and June 23rd in that order.
After this occurs there should be fish holding below Vacation (the lower of the two).

FO SHO!

Last Tuesday I caught 2 Shad and 2 Smallies At the upper section of Johnson's Beach. A friend got 1 last night. A Few fish are still around but it is winding down fast. The Summer activities put the fish down as well.

Wohler Dam is up. Momerial Dam is going up. The Summer Dams at Johnson's will begin construction Tuesday.

In Short the Shad Run is pretty much done this year.

The Smallmouth has been fair but not great. It will continue to improve but it will be best late afternoon/evening . After the dam at Momerial is up and water levels stabilize the fishing from there and upriver should get pretty good and peak in the fall.

Thank you for the info! Very cool to learn about these fish.

I'll be in Guerneville this weekend.  Wasn't a fishing trip but was planning on sneaking away to throw some lures for small mouth but will also try out the chartreuse grub to see if I can hook any leftover shad.  They look like they would be great smoked.
