and the hatred of Californian's is a real thing in the SeaTac area.  I have experienced it first hand and it is ugly.

I think the dislike of Californians is nearly universal, even (or maybe especially) among former Californians...

East Coast is more welcoming in my experience  (new york, PA and the carolina's).  I think the dislike is more prevalent in Oregon and Washington.

San Diego has a much more laid back vibe and is more welcoming than the Pacific NorthWest.

I claim Oregon when I am north of Eugene in Oregon or am in Washington. I claim either Oregon or Jefferson everywhere else. It’s tiring when you are back east and tell someone norther California and they say oh San Francisco?  No, about 300 miles north of there. That’s not Oregon already?  Meh. It is now for purposes of this conversation.

In many parts of the western half of the country they despise California. Texas is probably the worst.

Sort of relative. I think PNW has a much more laid back vibe and is more welcoming than NorCal!

Most Californians (crash and Allen excluded) aren't on our most favored guest list up here in Oregon, either - but that's another tale, isn't it.   :smt048

If fishing is important to you, head South.  From what I read on a Washington fishing forum - which is dominated by folks from Seattle - there are no great fishing opportunities anywhere in the Seattle area.  Steelhead are a heavily regulated fishery throughout Washington (and Idaho) and the fish are almost history, salmon are heavily regulated in Puget Sound to protect the resident Orcas, the beaches are all privately owned (except those in the small number of State Parks), and it seems all that everyone fishes for is sea-run cutthroat these days.  Plus fishing season won't open until March 31st.  I don't know what goes on offshore, beyond kayak range, and that may be entirely different from what goes on nearshore or in the Sound.

Mind you, that's just one group and other groups may have different experience(s).

I think I'd choose San Diego in a heartbeat just for the ocean fishing.

I’m a native Midwesterner, but I did live in West Texas for 5+ years, several years ago. My experience was that Texans would laugh about the latest goofiness to come out of CA (Prop 65, for example), but didn’t have anything approaching the disdain that Californians typically have for Texans.
I don't like stuff that sucks.

Hey, I spent more of my life in Seattle than California.  I hate Californians.

Most Californians aren't Californians.

Californians are a nice laid back bunch, San Franciscans doubly so.

The frickin' transplants from some other god forsaken state are another story, and give Californians a bad rap

I’m a state of Jefferson proponent. I hate California by definition. I hate it so much that I want to leave it, and I want to take 20 counties with me.

You hate it so much but yet you wont move from where you live....so there is something you must like about the greatest State in the Country..... :smt003

Eureka is far removed from San Diego and much more like WA/OR so I can see your viewpoint.

Good walleye fishing in WA!  It's the best eating fresh water fish IMHO.
