Hi all,

I'm finishing grad school this summer and my girlfriend is starting graduate school this Fall so we are leaving the area.  :(  She has some excellent offers to choose from and has narrowed down the top 2 choices to San Diego and Seattle.  I can find work pretty easily in either city, but I can't help thinking which city is better for fishing. :-))))))) I enjoy the fishery and the communities (NCKA/ Coastside) here in Monterey Bay/SF and will be very sad to leave!  I hope to have my first boat by summer 2020 so I can fish offshore, but will continue to fish from a kayak when it's just me.  I also don't want to limit myself to just ocean/offshore as I know WA has plenty of excellent freshwater fisheries.  We've never lived or fished in San Diego/Socal or Seattle.  Oh but I have fished the Puget Sound (Sekiu) a couple times for kings.

What do y'all think? All things considered (offshore boating, inshore kayaking, rivers) is the fishing better in Seattle or San Diego?

Thanks
David

San Diego is more expensive, but has the best weather.  I grew up down south and spent a lot of time in San Diego.

If money was not an issue, San Diego for sure.  Too much damn rain in Seattle.
So long and thanks for all the fish!!!

IDK about the fishing but the weather is another story.  If you don't mind cold, wet more times than not then choose Seattle.  If you don't mind morning fog and warm temperatures, then SD.  My wife is from the Seattle area and adamantly refuses to ever move back because of the weather.

Every time I've been to Seattle, its usually dark and/or raining.  F all that, you want San Diego!   :smt044

My vote is Oregon but that’s a hell of a commute to Seattle  :smt006

Between the two the answer is pretty obviously San Diego.  Not much river fishing down there but inshore and offshore it has in spades.  Seattle isn't even on the ocean.

San Diego. Just don’t live too far inland or you’ll swear that you’re living in an oven.

Ifn u wan2 avoid all the damn illegal immigrants ... San Diego.  Seattle choq full of undocumentd Canadians who snuk across border  :smt028

And housing less expensiv (dpeending on neighborhd)

seattle is proximal 2 BC and san juan n those epiq fisheries, but sD puts u in proximity 2 baja and some long range stuff that'll blow ur mind.  Acces dat long range stuff while its still availabl bc its not gonna last 4evr (or at least wont stay that way 4evr)

and the hatred of Californian's is a real thing in the SeaTac area.  I have experienced it first hand and it is ugly.

You can catch most of the Seattle targets in Norcal (salmon, rocklings, halibut). But you ain’t gonna catch any tuna or warm-water exotics in Seattle. I’d say go to SD then take roadtrips up to norcal when you’re craving salmon/rocklings.

I think the dislike of Californians is nearly universal, even (or maybe especially) among former Californians...
