well, a night in the salt sure wouldn't be this weekend with the conditions we're having at SC. we'll see how it is next weekend when the full moon is here.

btw, maybe we can hit night time fresh water in the delta, somewhere we can find covers from the winds, what do
you guys think? places like bethel island, jersey island, twitchell island, brannan island etc... where the smaller rivers bend that can provide covers.

I just spent the last 2 days on the boat trying to stratch up a striper from hogan for no luck. I think the cool snap has put the bite off. Once the weather warms up again I will hit it again in a week.

I think this would be a blast somewhere that has large catfish. I did alot of fishing from shore at night in Idaho for cats and sturgies in the Snake river. Could we fish Mendo at night on a yak?

the nights have been pretty good with a nice moon, definitely got to hit somewhere this weekend. either the salt or fresh but wherever it might be, we should go to spots that we're familiar with. i'd like to check out santa cruz, launch from the wharf and fish around the north light house area because that's where i'm familiar with. but i will not want to do this alone so if others want to go to their places, i'm in too. please keep checking the whether and keep all of us posted.

thanks
james

Might want to try Capitola @ night. I've surfed it w/ a full moon and was pretty fun. Deal w/ Capitola is that it's calm so you can concentrate on fishing more than making sure you don't get in trouble. And those kelp beds might produce some really interesting fish @ night that rarely bite during the day.

get a glo hoochie and bring your camera strobe to power it up.  I sometimes run a glo hoochie above whole squid.

(See HMB derby results....hehe, my little secret is out now)

Hey all,

I can't say the conditions around SC on Sat and Sun nights are ideal but Capitola seems better but I don't know that area. Is anyone in and or have any suggesstion?

I'm afraid to go along in the salt at night so if no one is going, I'll be hitting the 8-mile road area near Stockton on Saturday or Sunday evening, going late into the night. I'll confirm tomorrow.

James...If you go to 8 Mile to night fish, please be carefull. I'm a local and the thought of that makes me uncomfortable. Maybe I'm just overly cautious.

A safer place to consider would be Rancho Seco. The fool moon, night bite there is often a lot of fun. No pb's will run over you at RS. The entrance closes at 6pm, so get there before that. The exit will open anytime you drive up to it.

Alfredo, thanks for the warning. I thought PBs won't be running there at night, are you warning about theft or other crimes in that area? I was gonna launch at one of the marinas there thinking it would be safe.

Where is Rancho Seco?

All little of all those concerns...the marina launch would be safer than a levee launch.
Like I said, I'm probably over cautious.

Rancho Seco is east of Galt on hwy 104. Here's a link to some info:

If you really want to fish the delta at night go to discovery bay its a large area with a no wake policy lots of boat docks for bass and it is loaded with catfish and in the fall stripers.
If you use the boat ramp they close the ramp and the gate somewere around 8:00 or 9:00 pm. If you haul your kayak from the front of the marina you can come and go as you wish.
I believe you also must have an anchor lite on the stern of your yak for night time. As far as Pb's on the water I do it all the time in the summer all over the Delta. Use caution while out there. If you go to honker cut thats Kings Island marina off 8 mile rd. there is plenty of 5mph area to catch fish without to much problem with Pb's at night. Another place with a large 5mph area is Termanis "Tower Park marina" that might be a good place as well. I would be interested in night fishing the delta on the yak but not this weekend.
