Fish Finder Size Preference

Hey folks.

I have been looking at fish finders.  I cant decide between the 5 and the 7 inch model.  The 7 is definitely a lot easier to see and I could mount it further way and still get a lot of detail, but I worry that a screen that big will just be in the way.

I also like the price point of the 5 better than the 7, but I would rather spend the extra money up front than be disappointed and end up getting the bigger one later anyway and having to sell the smaller one.

I have read a ton of posts on here about this topic, I know it really just comes to to preference,  but this will be my first time having a kayak and a fish finder,  so any tips on what you like or dont like about the size of yours (I feel like I am setting myself up here for dick jokes) would be appreciated.

Anyone with a 5 wish they went bigger, or anyone with a 7 wish they went smaller?

I have a 5 and for me it is just right.

Tried 4 inch screen first, ended up with 5 inch, so far so good.

I started with a 5 inch and upgraded to a 7 inch after a year.
I like to see the details.

Go bigger if money is not an issue.

Price was an issue for me - the 5 was on sale, so I went for it.

I'd like to have the bigger screen as I prefer mine mounted up front out of the way, it'd be easier to see the details.

I started with 5, then 4, now 7 and looking at a 9. 

so yeah, I would say 7 minimum

5” no thank you touch screen.... verify how much amp it draws order correct size battery.

I like the size of mine, and so does my wife...

As for my fishfinder, I've got an older Garmin with a 3.5" screen, and it works for me. If I was a paddler, I'd probably mount it a little farther forward, but still can't imagine ever needing anything larger than 5" for a kayak.

7" is more like 5 usable inches and 5" is more like 3.5".  Size is always exaggerated.

I have crappy vision and mount them pretty far forward, and can see my 5” screens fine. The price point on 7” units has come down a lot in the last 5yrs though, so I’d probably consider it for my next FF. I just hate to spend hundreds of $$ on something that I know will eventually die. Because saltwater kayaking has claimed 5 or 6 of my FF’s in the past.

So, you're saying it's not just fishermen who tend to "embellish" about these things?
