There were a few kayakers with us on the water Sunday at Gerstle Cove. One was called Moby Dick on the radio and had a white kayak. We came in around the same time and there was the usual chit chat on the beach. I asked if they were on NCKA wondering if I knew them on here. One of them said, Oh, they have all those tournaments. They always let their friends win. I didn’t get the sense he had been part of the group and left with bad feelings. It sounded more like he was repeating something he had heard. That’s the first time I’ve gotten a negative response when I tell people about NCKA. I don’t know that it matters since you can’t please all the people etc etc. I just thought I’d mention it. Maybe there are others thinking the same thing.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

Meh.
I know what I have here so hearing something negative from an outsider doesn't phase me a bit.
A bunch a phooey and drama which I chose to ignore.

There are plenty of kayak fisherman up this way that aren't associated with NCKA.
The best way to represent is to be yourself.

I often sand bag.... Don't need any more gear. Stopped even competing these last couple of years. Love to see the dedication of others that go for and win! I'm not that guy. Love to see the huge bag that takes the prize! To the victor goes the spoils! Wanna win? put in the time to get there and take the flag!!!
Haters gonna hate......

my new name should be Ostridge. Got my head in the sand. Going fishing and letting go of the other stuff I can't control anyway!

Laugh in their faces and tell them that's ridiculous, and if they don't get a clue to come check it out for themselves then so be it.

They let their friends win what?  A shell?  I love that the tournaments are leaning to personalized, hand made awards instead of cash prizes.  I also love that the drawings are completely random and support just causes.  At least the events I attend.
I'm hardly aware it's even a contest.  I see these gatherings as a way I can get on the water and know there's enough folks around in case something goes bad as well as a way to meet up with friends old and new.  I'm amazed at how many can gather, party and (I've personally) never witnessed so much as even a raised voice in anger between participants.

They were probably bummed that you guys are going to end up turning Gerstle into TC.
