I've been waiting for this Saturday May 26th when the tide is perfect for Halibut.  The minus tides end today and the bay will have 3 days to clean itself up from the muddy waters caused by the minus tides.  I'm still undecided on wether to go PB (Party Boat) or kayak.  Maybe if Duane is willing to do a Friday night run for bait (high tide is 8:30pm), I'll join him and use my new bait tank (40 gallons.)

Just thought I'd let you all in on this little secret.  The next weekend we will see this perfect tide is not for another month June 23, 2007 the Hali's may have decided to move on.

Just curious, what exactly is a perfect tide for halibut?  Is it the relatively low tidal change between the slack high and slack low?  When would you actually fish?  Thanks.

The perfect tide is less than 3 feet movement with clear water.  If you get this combination in late May or June when the Halibut begin their migration into the bay, it is considered the perfect tide.  I think there is even a "gray beard" on Coastside Fishing Club.

The slow tide will give us "kayaks" a fair chance to drift slowly and get around without fighting the fast tides in the bay.  This is assuming the weather does not counter the good tide.

Hey Luis.... thanks for the heads up.  That does sound ideal as long as the wind doesn't become a factor.

Hint.... Duane likes Sierra Nevada.

Hey all, new yack addict here from SJ, got my tarpon 120 3 weeks ago, went out to Santa Cruz 3 times already for halibut, didn't have much luck with them, all I got were ling cods and rock cods. Would you guys mind if I tagged along and learn a thing or two?

Getting bait at 11PM???? Did you mean to catch bait from your kayak at 11PM??? I'm in for that too.... Please let me know time, loc, etc... Thanks.

Hey Danglin what's the "Bodega Ba System"?  Does this mean you'll be out in my neck of the woods camping in the wind and fog?

The 2nd Star Wars Movie, "Empire Strikes Back" ,,, Spielberg uses several references from Marin/Sonoma Counties in dialog and of course location.

@ one point Obie Won Knobie tells Luke "You must complete Your training with My Old Master Yoda, in the...

" Bodega Ba System " ...... AKA  taken from Bodega Bay .... :alien:....Littlegoofy,

But I like the way it rolls out, and ya I'm heading out there Friday with the Fam, Staying @ the Tides,

Not sure if I'm bringing the Yak yet, Heard thru Coastside the wind will still be up....

Danglin - If you're into shore fishing you can fish from the dock at Tides Wharf for some decent leopard shark and HUGE batray action...along with smelt, mackerel, and a rare shot at a halibut. They'll even bring you out drinks and appetizers from the bar!

It's a private pier so a license is required.

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

I guess you mean the dock right behind the resturant, did not know you could walk down where the boats are, not unless you mean the walk way with the fence just outside the resturant, that might be diffilcult with the hoards that will be there this weekend.

I was talking to a party boat capt, and I now rememeber he said something about a Deep part out there, and said something of numerous bat rays/sharks.....

:smt012 might bring the Yak after all........Thanks,   .........Danglin
