I got a late call from Duane that the pier rats were slaying the butts, so I met up with Frank, and Duane's buddy Dave already OTW.

As soon as I get to Frank, he lands a 24 incher drifting live smelt not too far from then end of the main pier. Soon after, I catch and release a short 20 incher and get hit a couple more times by what felt like other short butts.  A few minutes later I hook and land a 34 incher.

Frank also got multiple hali bites and landed another one just shy of the mark.  Dave also landed a small legal butt just before we decide to split from the wind.

The big story is that Duane, the o'mighty MasterBaiter and provider of live jacksmelt, finally got his due with what looks like the biggest hali so far.  I'm not sure exactly how big yet but I know it's over 36".

Congrats Duane!

Way to go! Were the party boats there as well. I heard they were doing well for the last couple of days.
I need me some of that.
If you don't know where you're headed, any road could get you there.

The day started at 0630 at the ramp. Duane loaded me up with bait and went off to catch Dave. Following shortly after with a nice live bait in tow when I get hit right as I started into the old pierP5210304. I Did not realize that ChuckE was right behind me asking if I needed assistance.
P5210281
Put this 24" Hali onboard and  no sooner I hear ChuckE say he is hooked up. As I get there I get this epic shot of ChuckE looking like he is battling with spray and slim all over the place.
P5210288
Of course we have to do the pose shot with the big smile for the fans.P5210300
Then I hear this little girl yelling (no it was Duane)  so I turn to see Duane doing battle with a Hali  that is trying to  saw his Yak in half.
P5210295
This shot shows how much trouble the Hali's had getting past the Eastbay Crew.
Scary Huh Posse!
P5210307
Finally caught up with Dave and Duane asking a rubber neck to take our picture. Notice the finger at top of picture...Rookie ( Thanks for the effort though)P5210311
