Because wing shooter hasn’t responded yet. He didn’t get the money, it went to the next guy on the list who stuck around to verify their fish. And it wasn’t just one guy who got disqualified there were a few.

I did stick around. I was roughly 50 yards from the check in.

Per the rules no one should’ve left the check in area until Notified to do so. I saw people coming and going from the check in area after they checked in just as I did. Not gonna change anything at this point. Just a chicken shit rule that should apply to any person who left the immediate check in area.

That sucks.

It’s always a bummer when someone tries to get you disqualified based on some tangential non-issue when you have done your best to understand and abide by the rules.

James put in a great effort and it was good to see him on his home waters. Rollins lake is absolutely a hidden gem. I can understand his emotion and being upset, it suks. But the rules were VERY simple and VERY clear. James did NOT follow the rules and I wasn't going to bend them. NOT for him NOT for anyone! All the other guys DID follow the rules - they stuck around knowing or be DQ'd. Why should any one angler be different than the entire field? We called his name several times with no response. He doidn't even tell anyone he was leaving. Nothing else I can do but DQ him as the rules stated. But, he's not alone, a few others got DQ'd because they also left. They accepted what they did which cost them.
Being a director for these events is sometimes very tough and you need to make some tough decisions, it sucks, people get pissed but it was the right thing to do.  Rules are rules, follow them and don't get DQ'd. James was also DQ's at Shasta and again the directors would bend, it sucks but we have to follow them. Live and learn.

The tourney director(me) received no money, I do not enter my own events and never will. The winner of the bass category was a director from CVKA (Central Valley Kayak Anglers) who came up to fish the event which was awesome to see him and his wife in our neck of the woods.

All the funds after expenses goes back to the club or a charity. I've donated thousands of dollars and prob hundreds of personal hours to the sport and those evolved who may need assistance. And I'll keep doing it. I'd like to see more people step up and give back some time and $. The LRC money I believe went to purchase the Hobie Revo16 year long raffle which generated thousands more for PIF. This formula has since been replicated several times, which is awesome.

But, overall everyone had a blast at Rollins. We gave away a beautiful Hobie Revo13. Lots of smiles and fish got caught on Sat. A few others also picked up a couple Hobies... cheap. The Potluck/ BBQ Hills Flat put on was outstanding. There support for our community has been amazing to say the least! Full roundup report to follow once I decompress. Thank You to those who called me and said "dont sweat it, keep doing what you do" I really appreciate it! ~Mike

Are you talking about the same revo 16 that was raffled off at the same LRC?  How the heck did the 1st/2nd/3rd place prize money go towards a kayak that you were already raffling off?  So what would have happened if you didn't actually cancel the tourney that morning and 3 people placed?

Also, we want to know for sure what you did with that money, not "I believe".  You definitely did not address to the NCKA and all those that participated what you intended on doing with the prize money since nobody was able to place.  We'd actually like some proof you donated that money to PIF instead of pocketing it, which is same as stealing.

No raffle tickets were sold which usually goes to pay for all expenses and some raffle products. We just gave away the raffle tickets for this event. Anything left over would have gone to PIF.

If I remember correctly, all LRC participants got 1 raffle ticket, they weren't just given away.  What I'm asking you is the 1st - 3rd CASH prize money that was never awarded to anyone because you cancelled the tourney the morning of despite people already launching.  Where did this money actually go?

We gave away one ticket to everyone. None were sold. All extra money after expenses was given to PIF.

Oh wait, there was that wicked cool 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT I bought. I considered that a write off.

Good night sir.

I didn't feel anything was wrong after this tourney since everyone had the equal chance to win a great prize with the 1 ticket . I was lucky enough to win a great fish finder just had to make sure you didn't put it in a bag where everyone was! Wish we still had the tourney , I just need to get my ass up there and get some fishing at Anchor Bay! Sorry for your loss James does sound like Mike was in the right . I often over look rules and it does get me into trouble too but learn from it and try again next time. After all it's not about the winning but having fun ! ( well maybe the money would have been nice ) . Hope you guys can still get along.

Just to clarify for Mike, if we’re referencing the 2015 LRC...the Hobie kayak raffle generated over $6k (LapuLapu won the Revo 16) and the event raffle generated about $1600 that we put into the PIF acct. If I remember correctly.

Sucks that some of you got DQed especially the last year’s champ... I think he had a good bag, but he took it like a man & enjoy the free bbq ribs & keg (might say little too much...)!
I was lucky enough to park by the table, so I got 1st in trout (& VTroll got 2nd)!
Sucks that we’re getting so competitive that we are starting to forget that this tourney is mostly benefiting HOW & us, whoever came out...
Anyways fish were biting, the weather was nice & the bbq ribs & homemade bbq sauce & salad dressing was off the hook!!!
Thank you Mike & Hill’s Flat Lumber Co.!!!

Mike-

I always add one final rule to any tourney I coordinate:  "Torney director resrves the right to enforce capricious and arbitrary decisions which may not be challenged."  Right above the signature line...

Seriously, it is TOUGHsometimes to put on a tourney.  Ya gotta go into it expecting someoneis going to be miffed at the end, for one reaso or another.  for my giant Sand Crab Perch Tourney, we even make an extra trophy and hold back one extra prize specifically for that person.  (We are so sure there will be one.  Like the guy who shows up late, or the one seen switching fish with his wife in the weigh-in line.

It's still SO worth it because 99% of participants have agreat time and are super-appreciative.

My suggestion to ground out this snafu,is, Next year make Rider your Co-Director. Always better to give than to receive, yeah?

Like I said in my initial post people were coming and going from the check in area. Going out to their cars and back to check in area. But at this point it doesn’t matter.

Bushy, I have co-directed tourneys with Mike and know that will never happen again. As far as always being that one guy goes, I’ve fished plenty of tournies and have never had an issue with the rules or decisions made by the tourney director.

I have to say I did have a great time on the water fishing and trying to help other anglers catch fish, even giving them the baits and techniques I was using. No matter the tourney I do my best to not put the competition before being a good person and friend. But to Naoakis point some people do let the competition take over.

Since you brought up Shasta Mike tell me more about that? Tell me about being DQ’d and breaking rules or making up rules. On second thought don’t tell me about it. I’m done
