Hi,

I am heading down to Mill Creek this evening or early Tuesday.  Anyone want to join up?  I've never been and am not even really sure where it is (I know it is the vicinity of Big Sur), so please post directions if you got 'em.  I can't even find good info on mapquest or google.  Any info on the fishing/launch would also be appreciated.

I plan on camping at Mill Creek because I read here that the launch is easier.  Camping is first come, first served, which I am hoping is not a problem mid-week.

Anyway, if you want to join up, post here soon or call my cell if I am already on the road or there. (406-531-0872).  I'm flexible on location, so if you want to meet up somewhere else, that's cool.

The wind/swell is looking a little questionable, so I am mentally prepared to not hit the water if it appears unsafe.

Later,
Sean

Hey blondstallion,
Mill Creek is a day-use area and a decent launch. The closest campground is about 3 minutes north of it on HWY 1 and its called Kirk Creek campground. It is first-come first-serve but I guarantee you will get a site on a Tuesday.
Kirk Creek campground is about 10 minutes south of Limekiln campground. And Limekiln is about 57 miles south of Monterey. Just reset your odometer as you pass Monterey and the drive will go by much faster!

Good luck this week, and remember to post a report when you get back. I'm seriously considering fishing there Friday and Saturday.

Good luck,
PK

Is there a campgound it that general area where I can camp and launch from the same place (so I don't need to drive to a launch site from where I camp)?

Thanks,
Sean

If you want to camp and launch I am pretty sure LimeKiln is your only option in that area.

MillCreek is an easy launch but you have to hike over some rocks to get there. If you are flying solo I would strongly recommend LimeKiln. The rocks at Mill Creek can be super slippery and I could easily see someone slipping and busting a leg/ankle.

Where is "stillwater south"?  Is this a good place to when flying solo?  Camping nearby?

Cheers,
Sean

I would second the Limekiln recommendation. What day are you planning on?

Stillwater is in Pebble Beach, a good place to solo launch but no camping unless you know a millionaire who owns land in Pebble.  Lime Kiln is not so good for solo but good camping close to the launch.  LK is usually sold out for camping on weekends by this time of year but is probably OK during the week.

Littoral,

I'm planning on Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday morning is a possibility as well, but kind of doubtful.  Hopefully the wind is not too bad.  I'll take the recommendations and go for Limekiln.  I'm leaving about 5 or 6 am tomorrow.

Peace, Sean

If you go, watch out the crazy wind. Either day does not seem as calm as flat.
