Format for the tournament:

Each particpant will be given one 4-5" wrench. He/she shall have 15 minutes to bend, twist, hammer, paint, grind...etc and attach wrench to the end of his/her fishing line. Each contestant to catch a 'wrenched fish' will enter have his/her name entered in a drawing for the prize money. All fish must be verified as 'wrenched' by another contestant.

Bill,

I'd be willing to coordinate an MBF one wrench mini-tourney out of HMB on 6/2/07. Cost of entry = just over the cost of supplies. Winner gets the remaining change, and mad props from his/her peers.

Per Brian G - contestants are given 15 minutes to modify their wrench. Wrench, split rings, and hook are supplied by contest coordinator. But, just as no two tiers will make a fly the exact same way, contestants would be allowed to use (1) item supplied on their own. That could be a hootchie, paint, grub, mylar, etc... Contestants would need to provide all their own tools needed to make the lure.

A mini-tourney, in that official wrench fishing time would be between 7:00-9:00. Contestants would need to be paired. Meet just South of Mavericks at 9:00 for an on the water measurement. Big fish wins. Then continue fishing with regular gear if so desired.

Purpose of the tourney would be to have some good old fashioned fun, as well as perhaps to get some of the new crew that haven't been in the salt a good chance to launch out of a harbor with more experienced folks. Plus it's opening weekend north of Pigeon Point

Regards,
Scott

OK - tentative rules are in the tourney section.

It's been pointed out that this will conflict with the Chef's memorial San Diego trip. I guess this will be good and bad. We'll certainly miss some of the people that will be in SD, but this will also be a way for folks that aren't going to SD to get together. Even before posting, I was thinking that this might be a continuation of the MFF tourneys Chris was doing last year. Proceeds would go to a worthy cause, one close to Stephen's heart.

Regards,
Scott

I thought that weekend sounded familiar... I will be in SD hauling in massive YT but you guys should have a blast. This is a great way to pre-fish for the HMB Derby the following weekend.

I've been mostly using home made diamond jigs, and home made bullet jigs with twintail scampis, in rootbeer and white being the most productive. I'm planning on breaking into the swimbaits this season. On my diamond jigs, I use a single hook that I tie a white bucktail type fly. This is my trailer, after having so many curltail grubs ripped off, I find this works great and holds up way longer. I also made some new jigs this year that are made from a half diamond jig so one side is flat. This should drop with a good wobble. I also wrap them in self adheasive holgraphic mylar for added flash.
