Catching mullets in Sf bay

Has any of you guys/gals caught mullets on rod n reel?ran into a huge school of them today and they were taunting the hell out of me

I've been told that mullet are herbivorous and won't take the hook. You'll have to jump in and spear them. Ask BigJim for instructions on how to sneak up on them.

Trust me I thought about it,they were anywhere from5’ to 20’ from shore

I caught a lunker mullet once off the beach in Cabo. It either hit shrimp or a lure. Can't remember it was many moons ago.

The locals normally catch them off the beach with a throw net.

All I can say is use a casting net

hawaiian throw net is not a legal method to catch mullet.

Expand your palate and start enjoying the oily bait fish.  It will give you
more opportunity to bring home fresh fish on a day when your target fish is not cooperating. 

Hey I thought mullets went out of style in the late 90’s but still popular in Alabama I think. Leave it to Big Jim to know how to eat bait... and not surprisingly it looks delicious.

I got a mullet at Bora Bora using single sabiki hook tipped with breakfast bread. The hardest part is to keep the bread on the hook. The fight was very fun.

Most of the pier rats in socal just snag em. It's not illegal.

not mullet.  but if i go out and get skunked like i did fishing for wsb,  id be more than happy with some dinner.

haven't tried mullet i don't think,  but those macks are one of the best fish ive ate lately.  cook it fresh and cook them outside.

Not too bony at all...you can see the good size fillets I got off one above....

Cooked the other one whole and the meat came right off backbone no prob.
