After the crap at work today I really need to slay some fish to ease the anger. Post when you have more specifics.

If I can get the FF mounted and a legal net I'm up for Sunday.

Four of my friends went out on a 6-pack charter with a very respected captain/guide on Sunday and they got skunked. They motored from Moss down to the area off Monterey that had been producing (Pt Pinos).
Latest info I heard is that the fish may be moving up toward the Soldier's Club area (and as far north as Socal Hole). If that is true, then Moss would be a good spot to launch from.
But if it turns out that was just a bad day and the fish are still off Monterey, you'd be better served launching in the Monterey area, like Coral St (if the swell is mellow enough) or maybe even Stillwater Cove, in Pebble Beach.
I'd check Coastside and other websites for current info before launching/driving down.

Good luck. I might join ya if the WX and reports are favorable.

sounds like pt. pinos has slowed down, soquel hole producing a few good fish, but far from wide open. The last storm must have scattered the fish some. They are reporting a short am bite then really slow after that. The wind is supposed to increase the next couple of days, so maybe by the weekend conditions will become more favorable.....if weather looks good, im game!

Hey Ben, if you do end up hitting ARW on Saturday instead, I may join you.  Weather forecast looks great, warm and sunny.  Have not checked tides yet, but winds are supposed to be calm the next few days and hopefully water will be clear green.  Plus, I store my yak around the corner from ARW on the Oakland Estuary, so it's just a roll and paddle for me.  Oddly, I have never fished ARW.

Would be my first paddle in like 6 mos...  I am just a bit short on funds so I might do swimbait.

Sorry I have been MIA!  If you head to Moss or Sonoma instead, I am sure we will hookup sometime soon, in any case.

Hey Ben,

I'd be down with Mendo... or possibly Sonoma if there's enough interest.  I might post something tomorrow.

Ben, Craig...everyone else,

I plan on hitting ARW on Sat.  I'll try to net up some bait before the launch.  When in a crunch, squid is a good all round salt water bait but at the ARW most fish were caught with live (and per Doug, recently deceased) smelt.  My family has been nudging me to catch another yummy striper for dinner again.  Actually I'd like to catch a halibut like Doug and Nate did last time I was out there.

Duane and the lucky dogs that fish during the weekdays are doing ARW today.

The weather reports sound really good and rock fish are just around the corner.  Craig, good time to shake off the cob webs and get back into the swing of things.   Since its your first time there, make sure you enter the driveway just to the right of the school as you're facing the front of the Encinal High.  Its not well marked.

See you guys there,

Gary

Gary, sounds good!  I am sure there will be an ARW Saturday hookup posting tomorrow or Friday.  If not, we can get one goin' and see who else joins.

I was actually thinking of just paddling to the launch, coz' my yak is already at the estuary in storage.  I'll look at a map and see how far of a paddle it is.

Let's talk times on a dedicated ARW hookup thread?

I am so looking forward to getting back into the swing of it and hanging out with y'all.  Thanks!

Good to see you back!
Gary - I have a throw net too, never tried it and would love to, what time do you want to get 'em?

Ben, its best to net bait at high tide and that would be 10:00 PM Friday night.  So save your net for another trip.  I'll keep tossing the net until I have enough bait for a group.  Besides you usually do good with my lucky bait.

Craig, I'm not sure where you store your yak but with the wind and the tide you might be better off focusing on the fishing and not the paddling.

Keep your eye on the wind reports.  Its supposed to be sunny and hot inland.

Later,

I will join any plan to chase salmon in Monterey Bay as long as it looks promising.  If no plan develops, I will make one.  Probably Saturday for me as the Big Sur Marathon is Sunday and I will be watching the kid.

Gary - insane's plan to hit berkely peir sounds right to me, unless the wind is howling. What do you think, Ive never fished there.
And if the forecast looks promising, Im going for Moss salmon.

I've never fished the Berkeley Piers either but I've read that many fish have been caught there.  It would mean some poking around until the holes could be found.  If the weather is good go for the salmon while you have the chance.

Tough call for me because I'm leaning towards the ARW.  The launch is free, parking is good, fishing is good, bathrooms are right there and we know where the fish can be.  I think when the Berkeley pier reports are good I'll make the switch.
