On a more serious note you should be able to get a zipper or two installed that would greatly aid you in this situation.

This is one of the cases in which I might choose to remove my PFD.  Is that ok?

Yes! As long as you have a permission slip from Bushy.

Because it's Winter and content seems to have slowed... I revive this entertaining and informative post.

Once you solve the problem of getting g out of your dry/wet suit, the Hobie Vantage seats probably make this activity even easier: cut a hole in the seat and put a plastic bag underneath. You dont even have to stop pedaling.

Could reduce the hole with a tube headed for the scupper.  The scupper shit!

+1 kokatat surge gore-tex drysuit that separates at the waist. Added bonus, you can just wear the top as a splash jacket.

How well are these at keeping you dry? Do they work as well as the chest entry ones?

Works very well, in my experience. I've been using the "surge" for a few seasons now, and still love it. Unfortunately, that model is discontinued. I think this is one is pretty much the same:

Are you pondering what I’m pondering?

I'm thinking; diaper up!  Better safe than sorry.  In fact, double tap that diaper with a second layer and wear a thin waterproof pair of pants when putting on the dry suit.  I have a pair of ski shell pants that are water proof.  My hope is; between the diaper and the shell pants, the dry suit will be saved.

...after trying it once, I’ve resigned to paddling back in to take a dump on shore, in a toilet preferably.
But I gotta warn you, it is much harder to hold in a shit while pedaling a Hobie! Its easier to hustle back to the bathroom in a paddle yak.

The stability of the tramps on the TI - combined with easy-to-remove wetsuit pants - allow for some amazing feats while at sea.

This was a great thread to read while sipping my morning coffee at my desk.

I'm a diver, so I'm always in an open cell 2 piece suit (non-farmer john). I can say that the two piece makes it pretty easy to drop trow in the yak... stability is key. I've only ever once had to drop a water log without the kayak... that meant full on dropping of pants while in the water.... that was the 2nd worst poo of my life. haha.

Also, if you're interested in getting some zippers or mods made to your dry suit, hit up Cricket at Otter Bay Wetsuits. She's been around forever and does quality work for a fair price. Usually about a 2 week leadtime.

I figured the diver contigent should speak up on this :smt005

you guys are continually sipping saltwater, makes for the occasional issue.

(OG reference) At least no one here had to use their T-shirt sleeves. I can never look at a muscle shirt without thinking of that story :smt044

I believe her name is Cricket not Critter  :smt044

I had a custom suit made by her about 25 years ago.

I don't have anything to contribute about conditions when suited up on a kayak.  but my "extreme" method for dealing with a sensitive bowel, is to fast the day before fishing.... this way i can shit myself empty the day before fishing, or maybe just have a small BM the morning of.

I've heard some wading fishermen like to take immodium to stop themselves up for the day.  but then they need laxatives to unplug afterwards...
