Beaches "closed" down here cuz of recent shark attacks...went diving the past two days anyway...

No sharks seen...

BUTT I did find dinner laying on the bottom.

 :smt003 :smt004 :smt003

Not a very big one at 27.5 inches, but still stoked...only my fifth speared one ever, second speared here in the 831...

Last one I got seems like forever ago back in 2015:

http://doty.norcalkayakanglers.com/catches/1793

I would be embarrassed about horrible shot placement but I'll go for a center mass bulls eye shot any day on these guys...

Didn't see this one until I was RIGHT above it and by time I saw outline I was so close I just pulled trigger right where gun was pointing.  :smt005 :smt044

Also seen in the murk were leopard sharks, rays, mola mola, sand, short halibut, sand, sand dollar beds, spooked halibut in 3 feet of water, sand, bait, eel grass, guitarfish, and sand.

Pretty stoked to live so close to the beach that my food is still twitching when I get home:

Few pics attached...shot her right at sunset so didn't have a lot of light for better pics.

Gonna eat her tonight with my buddy Jeff who has been taking me out Salmon fishing. Want to try and say thanks for all his generosity.  :smt001

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

Awesome!  Congrats.  :smt001

Thanks dude!!

Bummed that I forgot to charge my GoPro but oh well...

It was a pretty easy kill...I was so close to her that just pinned her to bottom after pulling trigger, made sure shaft was through all the way, got hand in gills, and swam up.

Nice catch Jim. Good thing you were not within the 1-mile radius between San Lorenzo River Mouth and Fair Avenue; where all the sharks are.  That would have been risky  :smt005

Nice Flatty! Sounds like you saw tons of cool marine life as well. Oh, and plenty of sand.

Have you tried any of the halibut as sashimi yet? So far that is my favorite way to eat it.

The landlord doesn't want to get to close to BigJim when he has his speargun!  He might end up as sashimi ala shark!!

If we were target shooting, that'd be a 10 in the center mass! Nice shooting Jim, and nice fish.
