I think an NCKA flag would be a great idea.  There is another thread discussing safety flags so why not have some NCKA/safety flags made so we can "fly our colors" and be more visible at the same time.  If we can have stickers and T-shirts made, why not flags.

If the logo is simple enough, we should be able to make a stencil.  Otherwise, we could go with something like this site...

Here's a current version of the ling logo that Erik and I are working on.  We're trying to strike a balance between my detailed version and Erik's simplified one.  I think we're getting there.

We've redone it a bit and it's now in a vector format that allows us to print this as large as Bill wants.  (I believe Sky's logos can do the same).  I've attached a PDF version for those that want to download it and zoom in to see it in all its vector glory.

Any suggestions welcome as we continue to tweak.

Brian,
I think your Ling is great the way it is and the only minor suggestion I would have is if you could rotate the paddle just a bit so that it is not under the "A" on Angler.  If that would change the symmetry too much I understand.  You're an excellent artist and this is my favorite design so far.  A "well done" to you and Erik.

Thanks Windrider,

Yeah, Erik and I have been struggling with that paddle.  Move it one way and it sits over a letter move it another and it doesn't quite look balanced.  Push the letters away a bit and the whole thing looks too spread apart.  I'll see what we can do, maybe Erik has come up with some ideas since our last e-mail.

Anyway, it sounds like we have until May 1st now to get things worked out (I previously thought this Friday was the deadline so I may have rushed a few things).

Okay, I think I fixed the paddle, not sure why I couldn't position it like that before, but I think this works. (I updated the images in the above post).  Although the work "KAYAK" seems a bit off-center now.

Brian,
Yeah, I just noticed that too, but there is plenty of room to rotate it to the left a bit.  I know that is easy for me to say, I'm not doing the work!  Regardless how the voting comes out, I would love to have your design on a shirt and flag.  Also a stencil of it in black on my yak would be great too!  Again, great work!

mabey you could rotate the rod a little clockwise Then you could stretch the word norcal like they do withe colloms in newspapers. or just put a space betwen nor and cal.

no matter what the ling head gets my vote I wish I could do some of the work on the design but I have neither the skills or the programs to manipulate it.

I agree the Lingcod logo is great. I think a firce Lingcod beats that tired old skull and crossed bones any day. But I also want to say I think SKy's logo idea are great as well but so artistic and detailed that we should consider them for web site banners, T-shirts, a booth banner for Paddlefest and other events, an email signature when posting ot other boards, etc. where we have space and more detailed color palettes, DPI, etc. His outstanding efforts should be put to use.

I like the Brian/Eric Lingcod design for the logo because it can be rendered in a simple monotone graphic and look great. There is no reason we cannot develop a brand identity with the logo and still use Sky's art work as well.

I like Sky's logo's as well, and have voted for my fav's.  I agree that they would be great for large banners and webiste stuff, but I really want a couple of ling stickers (3 for my boats and one for the truck) and a hat or two with the ling on it!!!

Thought I'd add one more concept to the mix.  I wanted to see if there was a way to convey the "extreme" aspect of our sport by including the surf action with the ling, kayak, rod and paddle.

Obviously this design itself probably won't work for a logo because of it's relative complexity and color scheme.  This was just cut and pasted from various pictures on the forum. Something like this concept could possibly be simplified as Erik did with Bsteve's ling. Anyway,  I thought it might stimulate some further thought about how to convey the "X" factor, before we close down our creative thinking.

How's this idea... JTF kayak fishing on the back of a giant ling.  In other words, replace the kayak with the ling.  Might just look a bit too silly, but it would put a big ol' "X" into eXtreme kayak fishing.
